I saw on CIO that there is a way to change the Bars to a real DB signal strength. Except that an "alt" key is needed. Does anyone know how to do this for the Storm?
I just have one problem with that and my question is "Where is the alt key on the storm keyboard"? I feel stupid asking this question but I don't think i have one.
yes it is, but it doesn't explain the ALT key, which i belve was the original question in this thread. I see a shift key that locks, but only locks on the qwert screen, so you can't type the !,"" withougt pressing buttoms in between. I just don't see a true alt key
Is -100 the best possible signal?
Is +100 the worst possible signal?
This statement just isn't making sense to me.
For the 'signal strength', if you are in the 100 area (that means -100 dBm), you will be transmitting at maximum power, and since coverage is hit and miss at this weak a signal, you may end up transmitting many times before the packets make it through.
I have full bars in my office. When I switch to dbm, it indicates -87. If I go by the statement above, it would indicate that I have a poor signal...? That doesn't make sense.
Took me a while to figure out WHAT you were linking to.
My settings for the forum are set for the maximum numner of posts per page. So your Page 5 = My page 2. I had to hover over the various posts until I found one that matched post1032617

I read on CIO.com that anywhere between -45 and -80 is a good signal. At home with 4 out of 5 bars I am at -86
You want a higher number, and since they are negative; -80 is better than -100. Anything higher than -80 is a great signal generally. It is measuring how much power the phone is using to acquire a signal.
There will be some variance dpeending on your network but that is a general rule
The wikipedia page on dBm is helpful in understanding the number. I don't have enough posts to post the direct link, but go to Wikipedia and search for dBm
