    I haven't been able to figure out how 5.0.328 decides what contact to choose when I first open the contacts screen.

    Seems totally random. It's not the last contact I looked at, or the last number dialed....

    Is it the last contact you opened? That's what 4.7.1.61 brings up.

    5.0 always brings up the last contact I used on mine. I know that doesn't help with your issue I just wanted to point out that I don't think what you are experiencing is normal.
