Unfortunately not. Because BBs were designed for business use, it will automatically add new numbers as work numbers. If you want to add a new number in a different category, you will either have to type it in that field manually, or use copy and paste.
I do believe there are 3rd party apps that will add numbers to existing contacts, and in different categories. One of them is called Add To Contact, I believe.
