hi everyone hope your all well, had my storm a week now and ive just got to grips with it all and i like it, now ive put on some wmv files and it played for a little while then crashed and rebooted so i did a factory reset all is well.
ive since converted the files to mp4 and avi, now i find that if the file is under 30mb itll play fine but if its over 30mb i get the red banner with error playing and a popup saying an error has occurred attempting to play this media.
ive also just tried the same file in mp4 format in 34mb file just to test and see, and i get the same error. now i have a 8gb data card i have the files on. im just wondering if the application memory only being 46mb is restricting the size of the file i can play. even though ive been on here and see people are able to put full dvds on their storm without an error.
I used handbrake to convert 3 movies to mp4 and they are 300mb each and they work great. Are you trying to copy protected media maybe the problem.
I have family guy season 1 that I D/L from Itunes that I can not convert or play on storm. copywrite issue ?!?
The babylon trailer seems to be too good. I have converted a few nothing was close to the ad in the storm!! I tried today shooting a 50MB 3gp from my camcorder, the movie was boxie an got rebooted !!
I've had no issues converting entire dvds to mp4, i have an entire extra 16gb card with nothing but movies on it and they play great in full resolution.
I use MP4 format and some of my movies are over 1 GB with no problem playing.
When I use Handbrake I just use the default iPhone-iPod Touch setting. For my protected movies though, I've been using a program called Wondershare because it decrypts and rips in one procedure and takes a lot less time than decrypting and then running Handbrake. Cost $40 or something though.
I use Wondershare. It rips DVD's to mp4 and converts files to 3gp. both play great. An average full length DVD is about 250MB and looks every bit as good as the Babalon trailer.

I should also add that .3gp and .mp4 files created in Adobe Premier DO NOT play on the storm, so it's not just the file extension it looks for.

3gp and mp4 are just containers. The codec you use matters. Storm plays mpeg4 and h.264 codecs.

I don't understand why you're doing that. Upconverting to 1080p doesn't improve quality (if your source is not 1080p), and the Storm can only display 480x360 (360p), so you're not even seeing all 1080 lines of resolution.
To the OP, my guess is that you have improperly encoded video files. Try the link that DriftDevil posted; handbrake and Super are free programs that work quite well. Use an mp4 container and either mpeg4 or h.264 codecs. You should be able to play video files of over a gigabyte.
