Is there a way to search the calender on the Storm 9530 for a specific name or event, or is third party software required?

The built-in BB Search application searches the Calendar, among other things. I just tried it and had no problems.

No, you don't access it through the calendar, you use the Search application in the main menu. Hit your blackberry key while on your home screen to show all of your applications, and then open the search function. Search from there. I hope that made sense.

Is the Search an icon or simply an item in the menu? I only see it in the menu when I touch the email icon.

Its on the home screen. Make sure you have show all selected.
