I'm new to this messenger..just started using it with a buddy at work last night... If I choose to send him my location, what exactly does he get?

a map that shows your location at that exact second. it doesnt follow you around or anything like that. Its a single instant in time.

Open Blackberry Messenger, then start a conversation with somebody. Hit the menu button, then select "Send My Location". Very easy to do, but I have never thought to (or had a reason to) use this feature. Does anyone know if it works by triangulation or GPS? If it's GPS, I imagine that the GPS would have to be set to "on"?

Uses GPS but I'm pretty sure that they have to have blackberry maps installed on their berry.

Yes GPS has to be ON and you have to be outside with a clear view of the sky to get the GPS data.
