what is the best way to handle these?
best to leave at default settings?

Factory default settings r allow.* 2 customize:
Options > advanced options or security options > applications / application permissions > highlight application > menu > edit permissions.
Alternatively, when downloading check edit permissions.
For info on permissions: device Help > security > third-party application control.
* edit/correction: factory defaults r as follows (from thread linked in Morf32's post below)--
I always let whatever I'm installing pick the default settings it wants to use.
Grey
Settings r allow all* unless u alter via edit permissions or edit default permissions.
* correction: see edit of my 1st post.
Not every app has default settings to "Allow All"... I have a bunch of apps on my phone that I let choose what permissions to give, and not one of them is default at "Allow All".
In that case i imagine @ some point u edited default permissions. Factory default = allow. Otherwise u r selecting edit permissions, no?
Edit: correction in my 1st post.
I have never edited permissions for apps. I have always allowed them to set the permissions on their own. I have never gone in after an app is downloaded to edit the permissions, either. The most I have done with any app is disabled compatibility mode.
OK. 2 clear up confusion pls check application list > menu > edit default permissions & post.
Connections: Custom
Interactions: Custom
User Data: Allow
And I have never touched any of those since the day I got my phone... there have been times where an app has requested to edit the default permissions, and I just say "yes". So that is how they were edited. That is why I am saying that I allow the app to determine what the permissions should be. If the app determines the permissions, then I have not had to physically change them myself.
Which is what this person is also saying. The app will let you know if it needs to edit the default permissions in any way.I always let whatever I'm installing pick the default settings it wants to use.
yes...
that is what i am asking
The app will let you know if it needs to edit any of the default permissions. A pop-up window will show, saying something like "This app wants to change permissions" or something like that (don't remember the actual wording)... and if you select "OK", it will bring you to the permission screen to show you what it is changing. Then you can just back out of the permission screen and continue the download process.
Can't find selection 2 restore factory default but custom* is not factory setting.
Edit: yes it is...see 1st post correction!
And that's fine... but the OP wanted to know what to change them to, and I was merely pointing out that apps will change them for you... no need to edit them yourself, unless there is something you want to specifically deny (where apps are concerned).
Default permissions settings r applied 2 all applications unless u customize.
The next time I get the pop-up message from an app asking to change the default permissions, I will be happy to come back to this thread and post a screen shot. It's not really worth going back and forth about. ;)
U may/will get request 2 alter permissions b/c urs r not factory default (allow all), they r customized.
Edit: see 1st post correction.
And once again, I have never physically gone into that screen and changed ANYTHING on my own. When the first pop-up message appeared for the first app I ever downloaded, I clicked "OK", backed out of the screen, and continued with the download. I didn't even know that screen existed until the first pop-up message I received. :)
Like i am u must be wondering how ur default connections & interactions got set 2 custom.
It doesn't really make me wonder. I just assumed it was due to a third party application changing the defaults (since the pop-up let me know that's what it was doing). I'm not really concerned about it. I'm also not arguing the fact that the default when you get the phone might be to Allow All. I obviously won't try to tell you you're wrong, since I never looked at that screen before. The OP just wanted to know how to handle the application permissions... he/she just wanted to know if the application itself would set the permissions automatically, and the answer is yes.
EDIT: It seems the Default Permissions are NOT set to "Allow". Please see the last post in this thread for default permissions of device: How can I change my permissions back to their default setting?.
Morf32: downloaded applications do not change default settings.
OP: do u need more info?
Read the "EDIT" in my post above...
Yes custom is actually a factory setting. For example Interactions: Input Simulation and Browser Filtering are always set to deny as is Security Timer Reset. It must be custom from the factory, as the cannot allow all permissions, thus they're set as custom.
Thank you, CX, for clearing this up. :)
Yeh...my mistake. I must've changed default 2 allow in all 3 categories.
Thanks Morf32 for link & patience!!!
Not a problem. :)
