with all the leaks that keep coming out, which seems like every couple weeks or so. how come it takes so long to make an official one. i mean if they can pop out leaks whats stopping them from officially releasing one. i guess what im looking for is info how how updates are made and why it takes so long.

Any update released for a BlackBerry has to be approved by carrier to make it official. All the bugs in the leaks are prolly holding them back from getting Carrier approval. Not that it would be any better, a buggy leak would be the exact same as a buggy official release.

    Programmers write OS (updates)
OS released to beta testers (not us, the real beta testers)
Beta testers find bugs and notify the programmers

No bugs this time, OS passed onto the carrier to be pushed out to phones.

All the leaked OS's are from beta testers. Typical time for Verizon to release an official update is more than 90 days - the Storm's have been A LITTLE faster b/c the original had so many bugs. When they get the data back from the beta testers they then go back to the drawing board to fix the issues the testers are having. Beleive it or not - Verizon wants to release an OS that makes this device hum perfectly - they'll get it eventually.

If there were no leaks, would you be less frustrated?

One thing you have to remember is that once Verizon, or any carrier, makes an OS official they have to support it. If they wanted to they could make every OS offical but they would have to incurr the cost of that. The best practice is to set a time frame to release an update and put thier stamp on what looks like the best one in that time frame.

I'm pretty sure they know they royally screwed up this release trying to get it out before the Holidays and are working diligently to fix teh issues before Spring releases their version in late spring '09.
