Rims os is pretty solid until you start loading it up with apps that leak memory. Then the device gets all the blame. I came from a pearl and memory management was crucial with that device. Even so I never lost data after the OS upgrades due to low file free. I haven't with the storm either.

Memory Cleaning is a security function, not a memory management tool, despite the name. It's very unlikely that it is related to memory loss in any way.

To the op what your setting in regards to preserving your messages and calendar entries. Do you have them set to be saved as "forever"?

As for me my calendar entries are saved up to 90 days and emails are saved for 30 days only.

hope this helps

RIM confirms low memory causes data deletion. Magic number is 400kb of memory.

It's ridiculous that RIM PURPOSELY deletes data from device. Instead, RIM should design device to reboot when low on memory.

I run into this issue every afternoon. I have a few apps installed (10-15), no themes. Quickpull won't even run on OS5. Even if I put the battery in, and walk away for a day, I can come back and it'll be low or out and it's got 30-25 megs free on boot.

The problem with your suggestion is then people would be reporting their devices mysteriously rebooting for no apparent reason. Devices only have so much memory, and something has to happen when they run out. The triage the OS performs is almost never what the user would prefer, but it's easily prevented by managing your memory yourself instead of letting it get so low. This was an acute problem with earlier models such as the Pearl. The CrackBerry Memory Optimization Procedure was developed to deal with it. The much greater memory of Storms and Tours makes it not nearly as big a problem, but the solution is still the same, at least until RIM enables storing and running apps from memory cards.

Holy crap man! LOL No wonder you are having memory issues. You have more garbage on that phone than I have ever seen. Seriously, let me just make a list for you now:

No shrink - You should! I think it's kinda dumb not to at this point.

Pro V Theme - You need two?

Easy Bartender DEMO - demos are mostly worthless.

Gant 3 Theme - like I said, more than one?

My verizon - pointless crap when you can just push a few numbers and get same info faster.

Opera - huge and runs like crap anyway

Sexy Dice - Jesus, really man?

Slacker - Why when you have Iheart as well?

Song ID - Again, seriously?

Storm Sketch - Okay, well maybe...lol

Tip calc - learn to add and multiply, possibly divide as well.

Urbanspoon - Yellowpages or Poynt.

Vibe and ring - 5.0 can do this for you without an app for it.

Just sayin man, anyone's phone would run like ish with all that uselessness on there. I know it's just opinion based but you have to see what i am saying here...lol.

With app lists like that, its obviously RIM's fault...

1) with prior berries, like curve and earlier, it was part of the OS"self preservation" to delete user info (calendar, emails, contacts) if device memory ran too low. With the storm and forward (don't know about new software for older berries) this "feature" has been disabled. So the storm isn't deleting info by desing

2) have you ever called vzw>rim and discussed the issue with someone to find any resolution? Or did you come to CB and start your whine fest and that's it?

3) lawsuit won't win. TOS is written for people like you.

4) if your info on your device is THAT valuable to you, then you're doing it wrong. You should be on some wireless sync system. That's how "big kids" do it.

That's very interesting information. Since many Storm users did not come from an earlier BlackBerry device, it makes sense they would not know what was common knowledge to users of older devices.
