Default all i want is a flash player.

Our blackberries can do everything... its my mobile office. It can deliver our email in seconds, it can pin point my location, it can do almost everything. All i want to see if some little kids getting hit in the face with huge exercise balls on break.com. How come youtube.com will work but not other flash websites?

YouTube vids are specially generated by YouTube and are then streamed to Media Player. m.youtube.com is not using flash. That's why.

As to Flash, dream on and don't hold your breath. We all want this but Flash is owned and developed by those Adobe who must make the decision to build a BlackBerry product. Right now there are several problems beginning with CPU power and working down to fixed size video windows. V10 of Flash may go someway to fix this. Jobs has said that he thinks that a version of Flash for the iToy will be a long time coming. What this means for us, I have no idea. This is all I know.

I disagree with what you say.

A) i had full flash on my moto Q, far less CPU power and a fixed window.
b) adobe doesnt have to release flash

Skyfire was able to give me great flash on a phone with smaller screen and less power.

So skyfire is the answer and they say a BB version will come in time.

the player isn't adobe only... its just that adobe creates most of it and actually adobe has been pushing for phone markets for a while and phone companys haven't aloud it because of security leaks..

look at pdf files..

there is readers that have nothing to do with adobe..

same thing

I programmed in flash for many years...

and its basically like having just about a full programming language at your finger tips.. over time they have greatly increased the security of it. If you read flash updates when they come out with fixes most the time there is quite a few security fixes.

Phones are just getting to the point were updates are much more common..
If you read into detail about why flash was rejected on the iPhone for a while some of it was to do with security..

I know most people don't really think about true security very often but it would be very scary to have true code execution on a mobile device. A hacker could potentially track you, listen to phone calls, <<< this is obviously the extreme but company's like rim and apple lg and such do really actually care about the security there devices hold..

(this is based of a things I have read over time not necessarily complete fact but I know it was of concern)

when skyfire comes out for blackberry it will support support flash. give them an email telling them you want the bb storm to be the next to try out there beta. If we show a demand I think we can get it. The demo looks amazing! full desktop internet.

directly from the skyfire site.

  • Android G1: An important platform that we are keeping our eye on.
  • Apple iPhone: We're waiting for a call from Steve...
  • Blackberry: It's an important platform and high on our list, yet not supported.
  • Palm OS phone: Palm OS phones are not supported, but Windows Mobile phones offered by Palm, such as certain Treo models, are fully supported.
  • Samsung Omnia i900: This phone's screen resolution is not supported.
  • Samsung Instinct: This phone is not a Windows Mobile device and will not run Skyfire.
  • Sony Ericcson Xperia: This phone's screen resolution is not supported.
  • Other Symbian phones: We are concentrating on the Symbian S60 (3rd edition) phones. We do not expect to support Symbian S40 or S60 (2nd edition), or UIQ phones anytime soon.

I just looked at the SkyFire website.

This is not at all a Flash clone. It is simply a server based browser. In essence it is no different from Opera-Mini. Just like OM it will not run via blackberry.net and all the websites are servred and converted by SkyFire.

You need an account to make it work and it seems that they only have a limited number servers worldwide since they are at pains to point out that there are no service guarantees or support outside certain territories.

There was comment about this before. Someone on the site provided a link to an article where an Adobe executive explained their company has come to realize the need for flash media on cell phones since the boom in smart phones and the increase in people surfing the web on their phones.

It went on to talk about the common use of the ARM processor in most of the current phones, such as the Iphone and of course, the BlackBerry.
The article stated it should be out sometime next year.

It is my understanding that Opera Mobile 9.5 (on new Omnia & HTC Touch Pro) supports Flash.

I would also like Flash to attempt to access my XM Radio online account via browser. Online player requires Flash. There is no other reasonable way to access XM radio on Storm. Of course you can do the crazy ORb route. Defeats the point of having a handheld device.

I had Skyfire on my Samsung I760 it was awsome. There was not a site that it wouldn't display, all videos played perfectly. I really hope they get a blackberry version out soon.

Skyfire is the only thing I realy miss about my samsung.
