So whenever I apply changes to my SMS alerts and such, they sounds do not change. I've tried changing sound profiles but it does not work. What am I doing wrong here? It always sticks with the same single alert sound and will never change to the one I want.
You are not necessarily doing anything wrong. There is a bug in the original release of the BB Storm OS and it was not corrected in the .75 update. It usually happens when you assign a designated ringtone to a specific caller for calls or messages and then try to set your overall profile to a different setting like Vibrate. Every notification will Vibrate on that setting, except for those from contact entries with special notifications. This is one of the fixes in the official .113 OS update that will be released very shortly from Verizon Wireless.
