Hey everyone. I have an unlocked Telus 9530 and running it on EDGE. However during the network selection i noticed this and thought i'd run it by someone who knows. I know the 9530 runs on CDMA 3G but could someone explain these screens to me?






Does the 9530 support GSM 3G?? I always thought the answer to the question was 'No!'

To answer you, Storm 9530 has radio frequencies for overseas 3G GSM, but NOT the frequencies for 3G in USA/Canada.

even that may not work here in the US/Canada. According to Vodaphone (http://blackberry.vodafone.co.uk/sto...cifications/):

Quad-Band: 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900MHz GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks.
Single-Band: 2100 MHz UMTS/HSPA networks.

3G networks only supported in the 2100 Mhz band, which is unfortuately pretty much the same as the 9530. 9530 actually has the CDMA radios too, which the 9500 appears to not have

What's the difference between EDGE and edge?

If the way the phone indicates 1xev and 1XEV is any indicator it has to do if you're connected to BIS or not. 1xev = TCP connection, 1XEV = BIS connection

Thanks for the clarification...but am getting discouraged. I'm using my Storm 9530 on AT&T. After trying a lot of things from these forums I used JL Commander to wipe the system. That worked great! I then reloaded the latest .76 release from Bell Mobility and went through the process of removing the Browser daemon with crackutil, installing the Service Book and reinstalling the Browser daemon. The internet is very fast using Media Net but cannot use the native browser nor can I set up Messaging. I still get the "Insufficient Coverage" message. The indicator says "edge" not "EDGE" even though "data" is set to "ON" in Connections. I don't know what else to do to make my Storm fully functional on AT&T even though it sounds like it should work.

Thoughts?
