3G and text message issues

so got my phone up and running now, thanks to some help from you guys. but there is still a couple kinks id like to get worked out.

first off. I am only on edge. and it goes from lower case to upper case, back and forth, constantly. i dont know if thats bad, im just saying. is there something i need to do or tweak to get on 3g? i have AT&T. i talked to their customer support and she said that since im using an unlocked phone the system doesnt recognize it to be a 3g capable phone.

secondly. i can receive text messages, but cant respond to them. i get a red x when i respond. any ideas on why this happens?

I am not sure about your sms. But you storm will run only on edge as long you are in North America. It is not compatible with ATT or T-mobile frequencies.
