How about you be more specific when responding to people... and criticizing them.
1xev means EVDO
1XEV means EVDO Rev-A
What? Caps does not refer to Rev 0 or Rev A. At least you should be correct when criticizing someone for criticizing someone.
1XEV means you're on EVDO and have full BB data service
1xev (lower case) means you're on EVDO but are not connected to BB data service. Nothing to do with rev 0 vs A

Reason: clarity
1X is the verizon 1XRTT network, basically their equivalent of a 2G data network. 1XEV is EVDO their 3G network. Caps mean you have a connection to RIMs servers, no caps = no connection to RIM.
In case anyone's interested, when I was flying through Japan and had my SIM card activated, I was on the GSM network and I got the 3G symbol, which I think looks pretty cool, much more "stylish" than 1XEV, but I guess they're trying to be accurate!

That is untrue. I had a samsung Alias and it has 1XEV. That my friend means it has nothing to do with RIM.
1XEV (caps)=3G (iv heard it is considered 3.5 but we will keep it simple)
1Xev = similar to 2G

No no no, sith is correct.
1XEV/1xev means you're on EVDO, but caps/no-caps refers to connection to RIM while on EVDO on BlackBerries. We're not talking about non-BB like the Alias.
And 1X does mean 1XRTT, which is VZW's non-3G data service.

Guys, this is the right answer. Don't believe me? Go to Services Status (under Manage Connections) during a BIS outage and you will see that Blackberry Internet Service will have "Connection: not connected" underneath it.
