Your solution works fine, but some of the ringtones are not exactly the same as were on my previous BB's (Curve , Bold 9000 & 9700) Still they are close enough.

Its hard to believe that RIM doesn't realize how users get attached to their Ringtones & even condition themselves to ignore unfamiliar tones. RIM have consistantly offered the same (or very similar) set of tones for at least 3 generations, so why stop now. I had called AT&T and then RIM (I have a BES & Enterprise support contract) on this - Both were clueless.

Thanks for helping to fix a minor but potentially annoying issue before these get into widespead use.

Thanks for the link. Just another problem to deal with. So far I have to say that my experience with the 9800 is a big let down. Who has time to deal with all these s***!

This problem takes a minute or two to deal with...if you have time to visit CrackBerry you have time to fix the ringtones once and never have to worry about it again...

Sure it's annoying - we all agree - but it's a relatively minor problem.

Great idea! I'm going to update the first post as this is a better solution.

I actually used a Cod from an hybrid OS for the 8330, it has the regular tones as well as the Storm tones on it.

Here's a link.

If you're interested I could email you the OEM tones. I have them on my Torch right now and they work great!!! I couldn't stand that there wasn't any of the original tones from other BBs so I had to get the OEM tones. Just PM me if you'd like them.

We found the tones awhile ago - looks like it can be done even better by just using the .cods. I'm playing with it now and going to update the first post.

Ok there are two methods. An easy one and a slightly more difficult but better method.

1) Easy: Download the ringtones and put them in your internal storage or media card "ringtones" folder. These seem to be very slightly lower quality and if your phone is in mass storage mode the ringtones/alerts will temporarily be changed to default because the phone cannot access the ringtones in the storage/media card.

Download this:
RapidShare: 1-CLICK Web hosting - Easy Filehosting

Unzip and put whichever ringtones you want in your ringtones folder - you can use the 4GB internal storage card or the MicroSD card for this.

Pull the battery to reboot.

2) Harder (but better): Use BBSAK to install the .cod files that contain the old ringtones. This is the only way to get the ringtones on the system memory that is always accessable. You will not be able to specify which ringtones are installed - aside from choosing from these 2 files - everything included in the .cod(s) you install will be put on the phone.
Thanks to MACKSnare519 for this idea!

Download either .cod (or both) and unzip - files within each are listed at the bottom:

net_rim_bb_medialoader_sonic_networks_high

net_rim_bb_medialoader_sonic_networks_high_2

Download and install BBSAK:
BBSAK 1.7 Released (10/25/09

Plug your phone in as if you were using Desktop Manager but instead run BBSAK. Under the tab "Modify Cods" choose "Install Cod(s)". Select the .cod you want and it will install it. Repeat if you want both of the .cods installed. Unplug your phone and do a battery pull.

When you go to change alerts, you'll find all of them under "All Alerts..." in the dropdown box.

PS: Someone mentioned there were other ringtones missing - perhaps Storm-specific ringtones. The .cods I linked above were extracted from a Bold 9000 5.0.0.681 OS. If someone wants to upload the .cod(s) for the Storm I'll gladly put them in this post.

Here's what's included in the two .cods:

Ok I put up a little guide in the first post of this thread. Please see above! MACKSnare519's idea worked great. I used the two .cod files in my Bold 9000's 5.0.0.681 install. Thanks!

I take it you have to assign the 9000 ringtones from the .cod files again if you have already assigned those same ones copied over via the easy method?

Yeah it was a bit of a pain but you're essentially changing the location of the files and it needs to be updated. Only gotta do it once though.
