    Hi,
I am planning to purchase my first smartphone. I am fan of physical keys. I want to purchase the BlackBerry Q5. Is it wise to go for it?
Anything new coming from blackberry in the low budget section?

I would really appreciate if Q5 owners could share their experiences with this device.

    Thanks.

    Go BBRY.

Q5 is fine choice for low budget bb10 devices.

I don't think BlackBerry is going to release anything cheaper for bb10 anytime soon but take a look at the Q10 also. Sometimes you can find Q10s at low prices.

Yes. Great phone; I haven't regretted it for a second and would buy again.

It is the "budget BB10 phone", but doesn't feel cheap at all. Keyboard great, screen great, battery life wonderful...10.2.1 runs well on it but latest 10.3.1 leaks run beautifully on it, too. Can't say enough good things about the Q5.

Yes it's a great phone but just so you know they were selling brand new but locked phones for $150 Canadian several months ago. Look for that price or cheaper.

I checked the price here in India. It's about 200$ here for the unlocked version.

I bought one in January to replace my Q10: it is for sure a great phone! Everything runs smooth, the battery last me all day (even with medium-high use) and the camera is good. $you won't regret buying one!

I started my BlackBerry journey with a Q5. I considered it to be a low risk phone because of all the negative stuff I was reading about BlackBerry. I now know this stuff was just haters mouthing off.

The Q5 is a good little phone with rather good battery life.

    Welcome to the club...

Most of the posters in this subforum would beg to differ with you; the battery life is often cited as one of the best qualities about this phone.

My Q5's battery lasts a day and a half of high usage. Let your battery run down below 10% before charging.

I've had mine for a year and a half and it still works like new. The battery lasts usually 24 to 36 hours for me. It's awesome, great value for your money especially at today's price.

I second this, my Q5 now has a few scratches and chips because it took me so long to get a case! The official Blackberry premium Q5 case is excellent, it consists of a rubber layer then a hard plastic layer, and it still shows the BlackBerry logo on the back!

At the moment BlackBerry has this lined up with regards to the price range of devices. As far as I know BlackBerry has not planned any budget qwerty devices for this year. I currently own a Q5 for my daily driver and it works wonderfully for instant messaging, browsing, e-mails ect. Gaming does work but don't expect great things.

I would say it's "safe" to purchase a Q5 now because you will have it for at least 1 year before you hear about other budget qwerty.

    Budget Range: Z3 / Q5 / "Rio" (Z5)

    Mid Range: Z10 / Q10 / Classic / Z30

High End: Passport + ( 2 new devices this year)

    Premium: P'9982 + P'9983

I bought one to replace my Z10, and love the keyboard. Of course I would grab a passport or classic if I could, but the Q5's were $100 for awhile and at that price could not resist.

Great battery life, good typing experience. The screen is a bit smaller for my aging eyes but I still love it.

The only thing you will have to worry about is that all apps install only on the phone memory. So after a certain time, you would get used to a lot of apps being on your phone with all the other user data like that of emails and attachments. You will start getting notifications saying you have limited memory. The effects of which could be that you will slowly start loosing saved draft mails etc that could be important. Though they don't take too much of space.

With about a year of use, with a lot of data moved in from my old 9900, with 7 emails ids configured and a whole lot of apps, it's taken me about a year to reach this stage. Which is fine I guess, considering that most people change phones one every year.

The Q5 has almost been the forgotten one in the whole BB10 system. You hear and see comments about Z10, Q10, Z30 and now Passport and Classic but the Q5 is the one missed.

It can be considered a great economical BlackBerry for younger users. Problem is 10.3.1 needs a full run out on every device. Hopefully by the end of this month ALL BB10 devices will be running the same software.

THEN market the hell out of it for BBOS users. A friend who works at a Telus carrier responsible for the corporate business, has been calling and converting all the BBOS customers over to Classic, Q10's and Z30's.

This needs to be done at every carrier....they need to be motivated.

I just purchased one. 249 from shop BlackBerry plus 5 bucks for express shipping. Everything seems perfect so far.

1 day and a half to 2 day battery life.
    Fast.
    Smooth.
    Fluid.
    Runs everything good.
    Good camera.
    Getting 10.3.1.
    Fm radio
    Mira cast.
    Wifi direct?

    For only 249? Great deal.

Only thing I hope I'm not disappointed with is with keyboard, screen size, screen quality (seemed a little washed sometimes) and Android app support but that's a 1:1 thing and not the q5's specifically.

Battery life is definitely great, especially coming from the Z10. I often forget to charge my phone, and it is great to still have 60% left on day 2 with moderate use.
