I was thinking of getting a q5 off amazon to play with. But not ready to give up my iPhone. Will it connect to wifi without a sim? If I like it I might either give up my iPhone.

Just what Blaze said. That is exactly how I got started on BB10. Bought a Q5 when it first came out and dumped my iphone and android devices within a month and never looked back. Now my whole family is on BB10. I own Classic, Passport, Z10, Q10 and Q5, and the Q5 is my most favorite BlackBerry 10 device. The price you can get a Q5 is a steal now and the phone is awesome. Unless you play tons of games on your phone, the memory is more than enough. Since I don't, I've never ran out of memory. To me, you're getting the best for less. Just make sure you get the right model # for your carrier and you will be happy. I just bought another Q5 yesterday. Enjoy your phone.

Doesn't anyone worry about whether running google play is secure?

I would not recoment using Google Play. I don't know how bad it is from the point of security, but installing Google Play makes you android apps slow and drains your battery quicker then without it. I'd rather use the Amazon Market, Snap, Aptoide or 1 Mobile.

I've been using Google Play and 1Mobile for the last 3 months as a test. No problems so far. As with anything like this research the apps before downloading and turn on BlackBerry Guardian to give you more piece of mind.

Side loading Snap is another alternative.

Another good place I use for apk's is Apkmirror.com . All the latest app versions are uploaded there. Just make sure that you click on the info link beside the app to see if it runs on runtime 4.4 or earlier which is the BlackBerry runtime.

I have no sim in mine atm but only because I'm using the PP again . Still the sound out of the headphones is great on Q5 imho and I chose it to take on a walk the other day. So many fine BB10 phones, I'd like to have a sim in all of them and would rock the Q5 often as it is a heck of a nice device

Any suggestions for a prepaid plan so I can use the q5 as a second phone? I got ATT compatible unlocked model.

Is there any reason not to take your sim out of your iphone and put it in your Q5 and you can again switch back and go back to your iphone if you want? It was fine for me when switching from android to BlackBerry, now i switch from BB 10 to OS7 and back, maybe Apple is different.

AT&T GoPhone is a great prepaid plan. T-Mobile also has a great prepaid plan. Also, cricket (which run's on AT&T) is pretty cheap but does not allow hotspot to your other devices.

Different sim than iphone 5s. I just got q5 today. Great keyboard!

    I'll try cricket. I don't need hotspot.
