I'll be upgrading my home wifi and will be getting a 802.11ac router(dual band). At present when I am trying to add a wifi connection, I only see the 2.4 GHZ option, so is 5GHz supported @Q5?

    No. Just 2.4 ghz.

5.0 ghz is available for all other bb10 phones though.

I see. So I suppose ac will not contribute anything to the network coverage as far as my BlackBerry q5 is concerned as it has a b/g/n and doesn't support 802.11ac

Getting a dualband router is pointless then at this point.

All BlackBerry devices except the BlackBerry Passport only support 802.11 A/B/G/N

This means you can still use it with a 802.11 AC connection but it will only be able to max out at 802.11 N and won't take advantage of the AC speed.

I'm not sure if it works with a 5Ghz network but mine is currently on 2.4ghz so I presume that's the only frequency it supports

Precisely so. Getting an ac router will be same as N router.

    I have an ac router.

My q5, tablet and computer are on the 2.4 ghz band (n).

My z10 and z30 are on the 5.0 ghz band (a).

One advantage of the 2.4 ghz band is that, while slower, it is stronger through barriers such as floors and walls in your home if your router is a significant distance away.
