I hate cases and I've never yse them. But it's a MUST with the Q5 since it's so slippery!!! I'm surprised they made it that way.

I've been using a Q5 since May. Without a case throughout. Never dropped it once. It fits perfectly in my hand.

My girlfriend use is Q5 with the BlackBerry branded Hard Shell.

Non-slippery and offer good among of protection.

I thought about not getting a case, but agree with all the other posters: a case for the Q5 is a must.

I'm using the official BlackBerry holster for my Q5, and never had any problems.
Well, the back is a little slippery, but as I hold it in both hands for typing anyway, there's no problem.

With the holster you also got the possibility to let your device lock automatically when you put it inside and unlock or turn on the screen when you get it out.

I have mine on a Feather Incipio case. It adds minimum bulk and it has a matte finish with a nice grip (feels kind of the passport/playbook back material)

i have the soft case and really prefer the feeling of it without. I've been going naked for a while now and it's been working out ok. it's a big difference from the 9790 I had before. It had a great grip to it.

I used a case from the ebay and it got spots and scratches on the sides of my Q5. Later used a case (Azmer double protection Hybrid case) and it was made the way to damage the unlock (power) key and I had to get it to the service centre to get the unlock key fixed and I threw that case. Since the day I been using it naked. My phone doesn't look good anymore though. The logo on back side (at bottom) do not know what is it called is now almost vanished and about to get off the phone.
Not able to find a good cover that look good and doesn't harm the phone.

Naked! I don't do cases. The Q5 is so cheap and should it brake I buy a new one.

Only device I use case is my red Z10 because it's very rare serial #00167 and not easy find a new one because it does only exist one

My q5 has been naked since I got it and as a result it has quite a few dents and the paint is scraping off in places. I have the white which has a rubber feel back so it's probably less slippery than the other colours with glossy backs. It is however slowly turning blue from being in my jeans all day

When I bought my Q5 14 months back, there weren't any decent cases available, neither the OEM BlackBerry ones. Became accustomed to handling it w/o case in about a month and then didn't find the need for one.

Have dropped it thrice on hard floor, got very minor dings, one on each corners, solid device I must say!

PS: I've always used a case before; starting with the Pearl 8110, then the Torch 9860.

For every new phone I get, I will use cases until I am getting used to hold them tightly in hand. Otherwise, I will definitely drop them several times during the first week... For now, I'm waiting for my new red Q5, I must buy a case for it because I really don't like the glossy back door.

Kind of disappointed in BB. I like my Q5...don't get me wrong but originally this phone was $399. You mean to tell me, BlackBerry couldn't afford to put a rubberized back on it instead or at least one like the Z30?

The black silicon flexible case/cover on my white q5 adds a lot of character to it, as a whole package.
Cannot imagine my q5 without it.

Here's a couple pictures of the official soft shell case I got for my Q5. It's great because it barely adds any volume and makes it much easier to grip. At a distance to the untrained eye it doesn't even look like it has a case on it :P

I actually got a 2-for-1 deal from the ShopCrackberry site for about $15 in total. Still waiting for a buyer on Kijiji to buy the second one lol. If you search on ebay you can probably find one for about $10 or less.

Q5 can definitely be used without a case. It's up to the user really.
