Just tested phone discharge rate during idle with and without Wifi on.

In an 8 hr period, with Wifi on would cause over 2x the battery consumption than without it on (18% vs 8%).

Okay! So they replaced and gave me a new phone.

Fully charged and using it since morning 8 am and now it's 3 PM with 3g on and wifi for 1 hour or less( since morning) and only moderate Bbm usage. Battery]= 36 % is it good?

    Thanks!

878, so besides moderate BBM usage, your phone did nothing but idle on 3G and you get approx 9% an hour burn rate? I wouldn't say that's good.

My rate isn't good, but just for your reference, my idle rate on 3G is about 1.5% an hr. With Wifi on, it's about 2.5% or lower. When surfing web it burns over 10% an hr tho.

A poor data coverage area affects battery drainage.

Ren596, besides what band / connections your phone has been on, would you also indicate what sort of applications and usages you have put you phone through? Almost hard to believe the phone consumes half a percent of the battery's power per hour.

Thank you all for the replies.

I think I will stick with this phone for now.. tired of visiting the service center. Still have 11 months warranty will ask them to replace and give me a new one on the 10th month if it is still giving me problems.

    Thanks Again .

    Hello,

I heard Q5 has a good battery life and all but to be honest I don't think so.
I charged it to the maximum and it lasted for 5-6 hours before turning red. All I used was BBM and that so with a low usage.

Is there anything I can do? Or should I go for a replacement or repair ( what ever the warranty covers).
Oh to add I am using it on 2g jst to save the battery and I have a 32gb memory card installed( I don't think it effects the battery. Does it? )

    Thannnks .
    Try resetting the phone

My Q5 seems to last really long time with moderate use, i do like to keep my display quite dim though so that probably plays a good part in the long battery life

Browsing Crackberry, E-mails, and calls the odd game here and there. Guess my battery is just a really good one.

    Tips:
i never let my battery go below 25%
I never charge my phone over night, i always take it off charge before i sleep, I've been told over charging the battery is bad for it.
    I normally only use 3G \ 2G networks unless I'm doing a video chat

Let us all measure the number of calls, mails, chats, sent and received. That way we know, the battery has not drained off in vain. Also all of the q5 owners who are not happy with the battery life, should try another phone/make and then, probably you may realise what the word "work horse" means. I did, move to a brand new Lenovo with a 2500 mah battery and the phone didn't even last till noon on a working day. Back to the q5 again.

With 7 emails, 3 chat apps, phone and sms, I don't think any other phone would stand a chance, other than a BlackBerry.

I easily get a full day starting at 8am on a charge, I never worry about it. It's refreshing! Coming from apple and more recently a samsung s4 it's the difference of a lifetime. Even when the battery dips below 10 percent with the odd text or app use it still lasts 2 hours. I pulled 2 days at a music festival with the brightness down while I still updated instagram and made the odd text or call. No complaints from this guy!

Good question, if you go to BBVE on your Q5 it's a small application that gives you all the information about your phone EG: battery health. It will either have a Green, yellow or red circle next to the battery.

With regards to getting a new battery, I would say rather get a new phone. Since the Q5's battery is glued on and is not meant to be removed or replaced. I really think all BlackBerry phones should have a removable battery for cases just like this. Makes things so much easier for the customer.
