Assuming the photo aspect ratio is 16:9 or 4:3 (not 1:1), how do you take portrait photos on the camera? Do you have to tilt the device 90 degrees to take it? Does it automatically rotate the picture when you tilt the device or do you have to edit the photo afterwards and rotate it manually?

You rotate the device to take the picture. Usually, you will find the photo automatically rotated in the pictures app, so you don't have to edit it.
