Talk me into it. I had the Z10 and absolutely hated it. Apps took ages to load, the android runtime was poor and I constantly had to reboot the phone. I'm an android/windows phone person. I have the choice between a refurbished Nexus 4 and a brand new BlackBerry Q5 in red. I like BB10 as an OS. But I'm very worried about buying another BB phone because of my poor experience with the Z10. I haven't used a small device in awhile. I've been using monsterous sized phones like the Lumia 1520 and such. I really want to like blackberry devices. Would you guys recommend me get the Nexus 4? Or go with this Q5.

You would not be satisfied at all with the Q5 unless you were hot for the keyboard (which it seems you aren't at all given you like large screen devices). The Q5's specs aren't as good as the Z10's - it's an entry-level BlackBerry device.

Not sure how long ago you had your Z10, but as of today, loading a Z10 with OS 10.3.1 gives a much more satisfying experience to the phone. The Android runtime has nearly been perfected with nearly all of the Android apps I've loaded to it. The only stumbling block appears to be apps that require Google services, which can be easily manipulated off using the tools found elsewhere on CrackBerry. The only Android apps I've had to do this with is Lyft and HBO GO. I never have to reboot either my Z10 or Z30 for issues anymore.

I don't think you'd have as bad an experience with a new Q5 as you had with the Z10, but if you need to be talked into it I think at the end if the day you'd regret getting the Q5.

I'd suggest that you get the nexus as your main phone then if possible look for a cheap used BB10 phone to play around with that way you won't be so disappointed if something doesn't work as you'd like

Nexus 4? No, don't get fooled. Wouldn't take that phone for free.
Get at least a Nexus 5 or the upcoming Nexus 6, but don't go with last last year's hardware...

Why are you asking for a BlackBerry when you even said yourself you're an Android guy?

Why is your choice between a refurbished Nexus 4 and BB Q5?

    I'd look at a Moto G for $200 unlocked before I'd take a refurb Nexus 4.

I love the Q5. The screen is small compared to the other phones/slabs you're referring to, but it's a solid performer -- great battery life, stable, and buttery smooth. But I had a 3.2" Android phone before, so never really used a bigger screen for a phone, so depends on what you're looking for.

The Q5 is easy on the pocket, too, which is a nice bonus! I think unlocked ones on Shopblackberry were recently reduced in price.

Based on your post, it sounds like a Z30 or Passport would be a better fit for you if you want to try another BB, though they come at a higher cost, of course.

Phone companies been trying to give away the nexus 4 for free. Don't do it. I have a phone exchange plan from best buy. when my phone went down. the first phone they offer me was the nexus 4. They had tons in stock. i laughed took the samsung 5 and sold it. Guess it wasn't selling. A co workers phone went down. rogers offered him a nexus 4. He took it. hated it. now he has a blackberry passport and luvin it. As for the q5. I wouldn't even use it as my back up phone. Z30 or passport or Q10 if you go blackberry. Samsung s4 if android. I'm using the passport now and luvin it

Q5 is way better than the Q10

Screen, keyboard and battery are very good and feels so nice the red one (think white one, too)

No quality problems with lifting screens same passport and never heard about double typing issue same Q10.

Wtf... honestly if you want to like BlackBerry you either need to use a passport or a Z30 since they'll perform the best with android apps.

I'm using a Z10 & I used to have some of the problems that you described. I did a security wipe & reinstalled all the apps again manually & it solved the problem. Do remember though you need to back up your contacts first properly & important them manually after the security wipe.

Since then I'm loving my Z10 on 10.2.1

    Hope you like yours too.

On 10.2.1, how would the Z30 be much better than the Z10 for Android apps? Loading a 10.3.x leak is a different story...

I've heard of people saying it's atleast twice as good. Part of the reason is its because of the quad-core gpu in the Z30.

Have you tried the Z30? Its the best all touch screen phone on the market IMO.

I've had all iphones (from the original iphone to iphone 6 (wife's)) and then moved to android (sony Xperia z1). The BB10 is the best mobile OS and everything just works with Z30. Not big into games and camera - so those don't bother me much. AS a communication device Z30 is top notch!! give it a try before jumping to android

If the OP needs to be "talked" into a choice then I think the question is already answered.... If there is an app gap and performance issues... then why consider more of the same>?????
