Got the Q5 yesterday at that windmobile sale and all i can say is I am impressed. Is fast, responsive and has a great battery life. Granted i have not installed alot of apps and i dont intend to anyways but for an 8gb phone at 199 is really good... Any of you bought a screen protector? Is it needed? The screen has a plastic layer but i was just wondering if it scratches easily.

I have heard that the screen is pretty good, BUT a decent screen protector only cost a couple bucks, so why not get one? I got one for my Z30.

Q5 + screen protector, for me, does not feel like it needs a case as much as all-inclusive screen phones. This is a win -win for size and poket-ability imho.

The BlackBerry Q5 is to the BlackBerry Bold 9700/9780/9790 as the BlackBerry Q10 is the the BlackBerry Bold 9900. A superb smartphone despite some people claiming the Q5 is cheaply constructed.

The 9790 is in a different league to the Q5. I like the phone but the tacky volume and power buttons, along with a creaky sim/sd card cover make it feel cheap. The 9790 and even my curve 9380 have no 'tacky' tactile feelings in your hand.

I like my Q5 a lot, but let's be realistic here.

I have a BlackBerry Soft Case on the BlackBerry Q5 so I don't worry about the microSIM & microSD card port cover, not that mine was ever loose.

Hi i tried soft shell case but too flimsy, found Premium shell case
it's a secure fit and feels part of Q5 it covers sim card flap and with a ridge around front edge which when placed face down the screen/ keypad are protected
from being scratched, also rear camera is protected from damage by the case,
    a quality case from Blackberry.

Yea the premium case is the way to go. I've seen it going cheap online as well. The finish on my white Q5 is a little slippery and the case makes it less so lol.

I bought an Mpero Impact X with Kickstand and it totally makes my Q5 b
ullet proof. It won't fit in case but doesn't need additional protection other than a screen protector. Total cost with delivery? Less than 8 bucks for Amazon.

I much rather the Q5 than the Q10. No joke. Plus, the Q5 has an LCD screen which is the same brightness as a Z10, lasts longer, better keyboard, sleek, sexy design.

Just got mine today, Z3 is interesting but for me BlackBerry is about physical keyboard (I'm Indonesian and I don't want to wait until end of this month for pre-order). Before I had a long stories with 9700 (my first BB), Torch series, several BB7 and Z1O. Unfortunately iPhone & Android was too cool for me. Now my Q5 is head to head with my Lenovo K900..!!

I think the Q5 is for the Curve series while the Q10 is for the Bold series. Just reminding...

Why all the comparisons? They are totally different device, but one stands out to be the real workhorse. The Q5, because it is kept basic and solid, all the while getting the jobs it needs to get done, actually done and well.

How's the key spacing on the Q5? I know it's much larger than the Q10's and I feel that it would be odd typing on it the Q5 as a result. Or maybe vice versa?

Better keyboard? A friend have the Q5 and I don't like the keyboard. The keys have too much space between them. And there is too much plastic on that phone, like a Curve. The only thing I don't understand it's why the Q5 have a better battery than the Q10.

I picked up a $150 Q5 to do software testing and let me tell you, it's a sleek little device: I'm not going to replace my Z30 as my daily driver, but for $150 it might be the best value smartphone you can get: compare to other $150 devices running (or should I say, "crawling") Android or Windows Phone and the Q5 running OS 10.2.1 is a way better value.

My sister's on a 9900 and considering an upgrade, so maybe I'll let her borrow this for a few weeks while she makes up her mind (after I'm finished testing my app).

Next to no difference, plus the keys cannot be peeled off, they keyboard is flawless, with no double typing issues, you have an LCD display, which will last tons longer than the Q10, and will be much brighter than a Q10. There is also no burn in on an LCD Device's screen. The Q5 is a bit more plain looking, but I kinda like it, because there's something about it that says sexy and sophisticated. And it is a nice size as well.

It really is a better device for one seventh the cost of a Q10 new. $140.00 well spent.

The key spacing of the BlackBerry Q5 is perfect for quickly typing. The click-sound of keypresses reminds me of a Remington manual typewriter or IBM Model M keyboard... no its not quite that loud. ;-)

Keyboard is subjective. And the issues with the Q10 were only on an early batch. Q5's screen is actually brighter than the Z10 and is class leading at 800cd illumination brightness. If ur worried about AMOLED screen longevity you're insane. Who is gonna keep a mobile phone these days for more than 5 years? AMOLED screens easily last that with no degradation the human eye can detect. 140 us dollars can buy several lenovo devices, and also the Redmi- which has better specs than the galaxy s3- ips display, quad core processor, runs android kitkat.
