Hi guys, I've a question regarding the first charge of a BlackBerry Q5.

The device had some charge out of the box, and the retailer didn't mention about the 'length' of first charge.
Earlier they used to instruct to do a 16-hours first charge.
Is this required with these new phones ?

Looking forward to an answer to this.

Not exactly, the phone already has some charge! You can do it! But it won't make any difference

There is no point in doing it if it doesn't make any difference.
So I think it is better to remove from charge when it says 'Fully Charge', as over charging is a risk in my opinion.

The new devices are protected from overcharging. But removing when fully charged is still fine.

    Ok, Observation.

After removing when battery was 100%, some 15 min of WiFi usage and then , (Battery level 90%)

    i) Screen Brightness set to minimum.
    ii) Wifi turned off.
    ii) GPS etc turned of.

IN "3G & 2G" mode, over a span of 1 hr with NO usage what-so-ever,

    battery was 79%.

    This is 10.2.1 OS.

What is causing this ? Any ideas ?

I have the Q5, and I would ask you not to look at the battery percentage, because, based on my observation, it quickly drops from 100 and keeps dropping till 40, and then slows down. It even stays at 0% for 20 minutes.
So just charge it to 100%, keep using it till it dies, and then calculate how much battery life you've got.

Hi, thank you so much for the reply.

I just put the phone in 2G only mode and the battery consumption speed has slowed down considerably. Last night it had 64%, and now it has 53%.

No matter..all battery devices come with some charge so that the electrons inside battery remain on flowing..if u have bought a device so should charge till it get fully charge..

If this a new phone it takes a few days for it to settle especially if you updated the OS. Battery life will get better. This happens every time you update your OS.

This was the result of my first charge out of the box.

Since then, I've not gotten even half of that battery life. Maybe because I'm using the phone more often.

Don't get too excited lol. I barely even used the phone in those 3 days. I had added one email account and downloaded a few apps like facebook and intouch apps to transfer all my contacts across. Plus, I was on wifi practically all the time.

Since then, I have used it a lot more since this Q5 is my business phone. So now, my battery life spans just 2 days instead of 3.

Well still, it lasts for 2 day! Lol Maybe this is because network coverage on my home quite bad. The signal isn't too good in here.. when I was on wifi, my Q5 consuming power even more. Well, something must be wrong with my phone.

When you're on wifi, it should consume less power. Why not try to do a security wipe and start all over again? My Z30 suddenly started to use up a lot of battery and I've recently done a wipe. Now it seems to be lasting 2 days again. Instead of just one day's worth of work.
