I have noticed during the past week my BlackBerry Q5 randomly drops WiFi connections and either switches to another WiFi, the same WiFi or to LTE.

There are quite a few threads about this issue. It's not limited to the Q5. It's an intermittent problem for many folks it seems. What provider do you have and does it happen mostly at home?

I have three routers providing three separate Internet connections. All three drop WiFi randomly and a few seconds later WiFi is restored temporarily until it drops off again and re-establishes connectivity via another of the three WiFi routers. My Internet providers are Bell, Eastlink, and Rogers; all at home.

I think you'll find that if you turn of the data the WiFi will be reestablished. But what good is that! While I'm not sure, there seems to be a conflict somewhere between the phone's OS and routers. I hear BlackBerry is looking into the problem. So I think the simple solution is turning off the data.

I've got a Z10 and a Q5. My sim card alternates between the two depending on what I want to do. I type more on the Q5 and use the Z10 more for media. When one loses WiFi I use the one without my sim card and that seems to work for me.

I had a similar problem with my Z10, it seems to have been cured after I upgraded to the latest version of OS 10. I suggest giving this a try. It seems this is some sort of software problem

You could have two different wifi services saved on your Q5 and have the phone set on auto setting which changes the wifi automatically when the wifi is available.

If you understand what I mean
