One of the things I love about BB is the trackpad (and previously wheel/ball) and the "BlackBerry button" drop down menu.

Unless a BB10 device comes out that doesn't require me to touch the screen I'm not switching. So I'm not you, but if I was, I'd get the 9900.

I have the 9900, and I would get the Q10 over Z10 or Q5 since it's almost the same keyboard.

Hello, I'm having a hard time choosing between the Q5 or the 9900. Price is not a problem as they are almost the same in the UAE.
I really like the keyboard, build quality, and feel of the 9900. But, I'm really loving the look of OS10 on the Q5. Please help me guys

    Thanks alot

How is this even a question? GO WITH THE Q5. Build quality won't matter much if your device isn't supported 2 years from now. BlackBerry is moving forward with BB10 not BBOS. Don't buy a phone that has an OS that is almost obsolete. I know that BB says it will continue to support BBOS but they also committed to the Playbook as well. Makes no sense for BB to put many resources behind a OS that they are phasing out. If you buy the Q5 you know that BB will stand behind both the device and OS.

Thanks for all the feedback guys really appreciate it! I've made my mind up and I'm definitely going for the Q10. I loved its solid feel, awesome keyboard, and BB10 is amazing (y). I'm just not willing to pay such a high price for the Q5 due to its feel, lack of a good camera, and to me an annoying keyboard. So definitely going for the Q10 now

I've had quite a few blackberries in the past, the 9000, 9700, 9780 and 9900, just got hold of a Q5 on a second line. I managed to pick one up on eBay for 200 ( new and unlocked) . I have no quarm's about the handset, the keyboard doesn't feel cheap, in fact I can hammer out long emails without it creaking and groaning, unless your going to get the Q10, I don't think you're going to find a better physical keyboard.

Awesome thread. One of the few where I have read every single post word for word.

Unfortunately, for me, I am STILL a fan of BIS. I find it useful when traveling (although not so much anymore now that companies like T-Mo have unlimited data while roaming), I like the curve of the Keyboard, and I am more of a fan of a TRACKPAD than I am of touch screen.

My 9780 is great for what I use it for. I have a Nokia WindowsPhone I can use for things the 9780 won't do, but still want some kind of upgrade soon. Until the Q5, the 10 was my only other option, and as a pre-pay guy, I refuse to pay for an unlocked Q10. The 5 is within price range for me.

Interestingly, I am still leaning toward the 9900. I've seen a few online selling for $150 US. That's a pretty good deal. Although, I am still thinking about the Q5. I may find that if I truly jumped on the new platform, my WindowsPhone would no longer be such a great 2nd phone.

Q5 the keyboard rocks might not be as good as the Q10 however your not losing that much, especially considering the price. Bold 9900 has an amazing keyboard best I've used however that's all that the device has going for it now. OS 7.1 is slow and the 9900 battery is laughed at by the Q5!

Sheesh, if you think 7.1 is slow I guess the OS 6 on my 9780 must crawl in comparison.

But the battery on the 9780 lasts for days.

Still, I am tempted to jump on a 9900 for a year and THEN hop to a Q5 or 10, hoping the price will drop by then.

Thanks for the reply but I'm still not going to go for the q5 because for such a high price it isn't wirth it. The plastic body, non-removable battery, curve style keyboard, the 5mp camera which at that price should at least be 8. And finally the overall feel of the phone just isn't good and doesn't live up to the price tag. So I'm gonna go for the q10
Q10 is great solid feel and the os is improving.

If the Q10 was available for even $200 without a contract I'd jump on it.

I picked up a Nokia WindowsPhone 521 for $99 with case and car charger. And it's a GREAT phone.

I see a few lightly used 9900's on ebay for $120 bucks. I may jump on that. Hopefully, in a year or two, the Q10 will drop in price on the secondary market. I just can't justify the price at present.

Q5 is a great phone. If you don't want to fork over the money for the Q10, it's easily your best bet if you want a physical keyboard.

I personally love my Z10 and would recommend it to anyone who asked. The virtual keyboard is amazing and doesn't make me miss a physical keyboard.

I have a 9900, and it is a very solid phone for comunication, maybe even better than Q10, but the battery is pretty poor. And the new Q10 with all those apps adds a lot of functionality.

    Late Update;

I purchased a 9900 about six months ago and it has become my constant companion for running my business. I Bridge it to my Playbook, and it's a winning combination for handling my Texts, Emails and Phone calls. That's 80 percent of what I do on the Bold. I can Also Tweet and use LinkedIn on the Playbook/9900 so it covers 100 percent of my business needs. And, Nobex Contacts and BlackBerry Travel absolutely RULE when it comes to automation for business travelers and contact capture.

Last week I picked up a Q5. Awsome phone for the money. I like the Chiclet Island type keyboard and I have fallen quickly in love with BB10. What an elegant and efficient OS. I now use this full time on my personal line. I was using a Windows Phone and an iPhone 4s alternating between the two. The Q5 is my new favorite phone.

When I go back to the 9900 after using the Q5 the phone seems a bit small now, and the keyboard feels cramped. I can deal with the OS switching. But sometimes I am frustrated that the 9900 does not react to my swipe gestures that I am now used to on the Q5. Still, the Trackpad and Toolbelt of the 9900 are very nice, especially for business.

If I had to do just one phone, it's apparent to me that I'd have to buy a new BlackBerry Classic. BB10 plus the trackpad and toolbelt. I may break down and do that in a year. I'm not excited about the Priv. I have a new Android and as good as it is, I prefer BBOS.

    Update complete.

    Aloha!
