EDIT: Mods, can someone please update the title, I forgot to add a 1.

    It should read 10.3.1.2582!

    How's it run?

I'm thinking of getting a Q5 and just wondering how it runs 10.3.1. I saw a video of one running 10.3.1 on youtube (in Italian) but despite going into settings and showing off the improvements of 10.3.1, the !d!ot video host didn't show specifically what version of 10.3.1 it is running...

Also, how smoothly does the Q5 run apps from SNAP or the amazon store, for example: instagram, google maps, ups, usps, fedex, maybe the us airways app, bloomberg, scottrade, and the schwab (charles schwab) banking app.

Is it like the Passport with android apps ==> in other words, does the battery life suck depending upon how many android apps you have installed?

    Thanks!

My girlfriend has a Q5 and was running 10.3.1.2582 up until a couple days ago when 10.3.1.2708 was released, and is now running that. BlackBerry 10.3.1 works beautifully on it with no issues to report, very responsive. I'd recommend it.

I can't speak for some of the apps you've listed, but she does have Pinterest which I sideloaded onto it for her using the APK file. Works fine, the only extra thing I've done is turned off "Run when minimized" in the settings for app permissions to prevent any unnecessary battery drain. She gets on average two full days with light to moderate usage.

I updated my Q5 to 10.3.1.2708 and Snap Beta 3 and everything is running well. Remember that Android apps that require Google Play to run won't work. Some apps will work ok except for certain features that require Google Play.

I just did the update last night after stressing out for hours.
Works well and I've even say it's snappier.
I like that the back "button" is now smaller and hence giving you more screen size.

Overall I'm happy with it. It really feels like a new phone!

Well, I have a Q5 SQR100-2 here and since the update to 10.3.1.2582 it responds to key presses only in the main screen but in none of the apps. So I have a basically useless phone now. Reset to factory defaults and now I'm stuck setting up WiFi because I cannot enter my SSID password. There is no on-screen keyboard available and the physical one just does not work. I remember its shortcuts worked on the main screen though.
Does anyone else have the same issue or knows how to solve it? Thanks guys

No issue like that here. Did you do a full upgrade? I did a security wipe first and have have no issues. A few complaints mind you, but nothing like that.

Runs beautifully! I've run a handful of 10.3.1 leaks and now have the official OTA update that Telus sent out (10.3.1.2708).

As a general point, the Q5 is wrongly pegged as a budget device -- yes, marginally cheaper than the other BB10 offerings, but it's not lacking in the build/look and feel or how it functions. The only downside I can think of is the low internal storage storage (but that's a limitation one is aware of before buying the device). I'm constantly amazed by this device that for whatever reason gets overshadowed by the other BB10 options.

Agree completely. Plus I really enjoy its portability and easy one handed usability. I use a basic OEM soft gel case to give it a little extra weight and texture. I'd rather carry it as my primary communications device versus the Classic. It meets my needs!

That's exactly why I picked one up! It seems like a really solid device for a really really good price, what more can you ask for?

I returned my original Passport with hopes of getting the redesigned AT&T version, and picked up a Lumia 635 in the time being (it was only $40 on amazon). I did some thinking, and realized that I'd rather spend $150 for a Q5 than $700 for a redesigned Passport, esp since in the long run the value of the Passport will diminish, and since parts for the Q5 are abundant and extremely cheap, if anything breaks on that bad boy, I'll just replace the parts!

I mean, I don't really give a damn about having a huge screen (yes it was amazing owning the Passport) but I honestly don't spend enough time on my phone to warrant that... I mean, I text and bbm, check email, and use the phone as a phone... yes I'll browse here and there and maybe fire up the bloomberg app, or track a package via the ups/usps/fedex apps, but that's about it... I honestly do not game, give a damn about videos, and I'll maybe take a photo here and there. The only app I do check on a daily is Instagram (which I've found works excellent in the updated android runtime of 10.3.1. At this point, I'd rather a have a 3" screen with a pkb running BBOS than a phone with a 4" screen running some other OS. That just shows how much I love the BB10 OS

Anyway, my Q5 is slated to arrive next week and I absolutely look forward to it!

    Thanks for all your replies!

Hi fschmeck, I installed the full 10.3.1.2582 first, then found this issue, reset to factory settings, and now it's zombie.
There is no way around the setup wizard which demands WiFi to be set up. I can use the keys to navigate between the setup wizard pages (b to go back, n to go to the next page, t to scroll to top, b to scroll to bottom), so the keys basically work, but not for text input. No keypress appears to be registered at all inside text boxes. It's crazy and this practically bricks the phone.

Well, I just reverted to 10.3.1.1016 and now the keys are working again... maybe I'll give the newer releases a shot again soon but I'm out of time now. Thank you anyway

Glad you have found a workaround, but I'm perplexed how this could affect one device and not another.

Indeed it's odd but reproducible. I went to 10.3.1.2582 again yesterday and keys did not work (I used qc8960.factory_sfi.desktop-10.3.1.2582-nto+armle-v7+signed.bar and DBBTool to deploy). Then reverted to 10.3.1.1016 with the autoloader (Q5-Q10-10.3.1.1016.exe) and keys in apps are back. Unfortunately I don't have any of the versions between these two so I cannot find the first release having the issue. It is definitely there though and I wish I could find out what is wrong.

When you did the update, were you already on 10.3.0? or did you go from 10.2.1?

I read somewhere on here that you have to be on at least 10.3.0 for it to work... I'll see if I can find the thread, it was from someone who knows quite a lot about BB software...

From what I remember it was on 10.2 when I got it and I upgraded to 10.3.1.1016 right away. That didn't cause any immediate problems. It definitely starts only with some later version.

    Hi anyone,

just wanted to confirm the issue still exists with the latest 10.3.2.798 release on my SQR100-2 (Q5). So I'll have to go back to 10.3.1 again.
It's kind of odd that I seem to have the only Q5 that suffers this problem. Hope that a later release may still fix it.

    Regards,
    Joe

Try to use Silent Keys app in case your keyboard doesn't work anymore.

Well, that would be a way out, however its 0.89 EUR I don't want to spend to bypass a system issue. Again, the keys do work - as shortcuts on the home screen for example, and also for scrolling top/bottom/previous/next in any app, by pressing them for a longer period to assign an assistant action to it, whatever. The only places where key presses are not accepted are inside input fields. I don't get the point.
