I know this has been discussed on and off before this, but now that the Classic is close to being released, and we know most of the specs on it, I thought it would be interesting to see what the community would prefer now.

I know there are BB purists that want the whole toolbelt, but there are at least some people who like the Q10 form factor but don't want to always have to touch the screen (scrolling through web-pages or through a doc).

So, if the Q10 was fitted with a Passport-like touch-sensitive keyboard, would you prefer it to the larger form-factor of the Classic?

For the sake of parity, let's say that the proposed Q10 variant (call it the Q30??) would have otherwise similar specs to the Classic. I know that's not realistic, but this is a hypothetical question.

Also: Yes, the proposed Q30 is vapourware, and the Classic is real, but let's see if we can give Blackberry an idea of what we'd prefer.

no, the less components the better. I'm fine with a regular keyboard.

You realize that you would in effect be making a 3.1 inch or 3.5 Passport mini. If you are going to reduce the length of the device you might as well increase the size of the screen to 4 inches and make a true Passport mini. A Q10 with a Passport keyboard would be very very stubby and the virtual keys very hard to use. They will not be abandoning the 1:1 screen ratio any time soon.

A 4 row touch sensitive keyboard with a 4" screen and a 3500mAh battery in a Q10 form factor (nice rounded edges) would be the perfect device, for me.

I agree! Never used the Passport but I think the sensitive keyboard would be nice.

I am not a fan of the sharp corners either but I am also not a fan of having a different design language for each line of phone. I would like to see a Bold (classic) design, a Passport design and a Torch design. Here it gets tricky. All of Z phones are different. I would love to see a modern take on the Torch 9850 without the tool belt. An all touch phone that looks and feels like a BlackBerry.

My idea is highly unlikely. I guess the next high end all touch phone will look a Z3 with Passport styling touches.

I like the utility belt so no, I don't want a Q10 successor.

Would I like them to make one? Yes.

Why? To please more than one group of customers.

    Would I buy it? No

Should the classic have the touch sensitive KB? YES

    Will it? No

Is that stupid? Yes. Given the classics screen is smaller than the Passport which DOES have that feature. No reason it shouldn't have the touch sensitive keyboard.

Only thing I want from the Classic on my Q10 is the silver round the phone like the Bold 9900 had.

I want a slightly larger Q10 with a touch keyboard. The Passport is too big for me and I want to keep my traditional BlackBerry keyboard, but I also don't want that tool belt back...

Yes, forget the tool belt. I want the touch sensitive keyboard on my Q10. That is innovation. I feel that Blackberry have gone 'too classic' with the classic, in that the specs are the same as the two year old Q10. At least give me the innovation of a touch sensitive keyboard. And I can tell you why I would want that (but would settle for the trackpad): It's all about accurate curser placement, cutting and pasting, and scrolling down web pages without the incredible annoyance of inadvertently opening buried links, which to me is the curse of touch screen browsing on a small phone screen.
One step further, give me the 3.5 inch screen, no tool belt, touch sensitive keyboard in a phone just a little bigger than the Q10, but smaller than the Q20.

Again, you do realize that the device above would about the same width as a Classic but would be shorter.
All you have achieved is a device that would be as wide as a Z30 with the height of a 9900. Excessive length is not a problem for the Classic.

I think of the Classic as being function over form. Had they used the 9900 style keyboard and trackpad the overall device would likely have been no longer but ending up with a more usable trackpad. The tiny Classic trackpad is a bit of a mistake ... but we will have to wait and see. I am all for a Passport mini but I think that the Classic will be as big as the Bold design will become.

    Yeah, I'd prefer a Q10 replacement with Passport-type controls.

I have to say, I was initially excited by the prospect of the Classic, thinking I could upgrade from the Q10, but on learning more about the specs, ain't worth it, at least for me.

I would like to see a Q10 successor with keyboard I can use as touch pad! I think that would be awesome. Also it has to be as thin as Z10 or lil thinner. Hey if Apple was able to make chassis of notebook computers thinner and HTC started very thin phone Blackberry can find a way not to make it too bulky if it's as small as Q10 with keyboard.

The market for the Classic will be small. The market for a Q10 sized Device would be really really small.
