I have a subaru forester that has one of the built-in GPS navigation units that is detachable. When I plug my Q10 into the USB slot to be charged, I get a message on my phone saying that the phone is going to try to install Blackberry link onto the computer. Well obviously that's not going to work, because you can't install BB Link onto the poor TomTom unit.

When I had my BB Torch, the phone would ask if I wanted to charge, sync, or do nothing when I plugged in the USB cable. Is there a similar setting on the Q10 that I can change so I can charge my phone via the usb port on my car?

Maybe try changing the USB setting in your device settings from Auto-detect to Windows?
