Side by side, mine doesn't look anywhere near that dark. Although in the daylight, yes it's a little dimmer, but that's OMOLED for you. How could you compare 2 different screen types? Like comparing plasma and lcd...

My 2 Q10 look so dark!! Yes, amoled is another thing I know. But it shouldn't be soooo dark. Am I right? Can we have other Q's in comparison?

Wow!!! And many thanks! Sorry, but than I had 2 totally different q10 the last weeks. Never ever my Q10 is such a bright Device!!! Never!!!!

The side by side pics aren't accurate representations due to lighting conditions and other reasons. Some one explained it earlier and I can't remember why the pics are not necessarily accurate.

Because of the influence of the ambient Light Sensor. If you take a picture in a dark room, the Blackberry dim the Light, other Devices eventually not. That's why you can only compare the brightness in a bright Situation. The Q10 (ambient sensor) turns only in this Situation to the max. Possible brightness. Check it out: Put

The solution: Ditch the Q10 and get the Z10.

Here is my Q10 at max brightness vs an iPhone 5 at max brightness. There is a huge difference in person. What you can't really see is how off-white the Q10's color balance is compared to the iPhone.

Is auto backlight dimming turned "on" or "off" for the iPhone? You're taking the picture in a dark room.

Off-white is inherent in AMOLED technology. Whites are not white-white for AMOLED just like black is not black-black for LCD.

Backlight dimming was off, and I was taking the picture in a bright room. Exposing for the screen.

I edited to sound informative in response to something that sounded like a complaint.

Since backlight dimming is "on" for the Blackberry it also needs to be "on" for the iPhone to make a notable comparison. Even then, due to different light sensors, software and screen technology the iPhone may still be brighter. It is what it is.

If I never saw a plasma TV next to an LCD TV I would never notice that the image is dimmer on the plasma.

And thanks for being combative, I was simply posting an accurate comparison for the sake of public knowledge. Sheesh.

My Q10 does not automatically dim, though I know it should. It stays right where I set it, invariably.

The thing everyone is forgetting is that the Q10 screen is NOT "AMOLED." The Q10 screen is "Super AMOLED" which is actually supposed to be sharper and much brighter than AMOLED. If you're ever in a Verizon store, compare your Q10 with the Nokia Lumia 928 (AMOLED) or the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini (Super AMOLED). The 928 is much, much brighter than the Q10, which defies logic. The only thing we can get from this is that BlackBerry is deliberately crippling the brightness peak for these phones to conserve battery life.

Can anyone explain why the minimum brightness is so bright? I can't check my at night without blinding myself.

It's because BlackBerry designed a brightness slider that does nothing. One of the highest minimum brightnesses on the market and definitively the lowest maximum brightness on the market. Thank you, BlackBerry!

Just got my Q10. It is so dim that I'm thinking about returning it. I'm reading these posts from Snazy and others and I'm actually getting angry.
Lol I'm sorry, but you getting 'angry' at me for having an option just makes me laugh.

I understand your frustrations, and if you read all my posts I say each time that it's my opinion and preference.

Hope you get what you want in an improvement in the brightness, and it's not too costly on the battery.

Just came back from the mall after looking at Q10s from Rogers, Telus, Virgin, Bell and Wireless Wave. All had the same dull, dim screen so I think I can rule out that Roger's had a bad run of defective screens. I also found several reviews on the web where the reviewer noted that the screen brightness is dim.

    Beautiful phone otherwise.

Does anyone know if RIM can intitute a software change to turn up the brightness?
Sure hope so, mate. Fingers crossed. Found four different Q10 models here at Verizon Wireless in the States and they're just awful. Hopefully a fix will be implemented soon.
