Hey All,

I bought my wife a Verizon BB Q10 . We have been using it on the AT&T $40 go-phone plan for a few months now. She gets 4G LTE speeds on it. This weekend, I decided to switch her over to T-mobile because I found a $30 plan that would work for her and also because we would definitely love the ability to use international data.

However, after getting the number ported over, I found she was only getting 2G (EDGE) speeds in our area, instead of 4G like we did on AT&T.

I was told from a T-mobile store rep that unlocked phones from other carriers could only be at 2G max. Is this true or is there something I need to enter into the BB Q10 that can enable it to be at 4G?

I was very surprised that it worked on 4G LTE for AT&T but only 2G on T-mobile. Any idea why? Thanks for your help. I might just have to switch her back over to AT&T...

Bands are different all around ATT and Tmobile are more inter compatible than Tmobile and Verizon.

Verizon still has CDMA everyone else is GSM based. Basically a Verizon phone is limited to Verizon.

not true @ all. like i said, i used the phone on AT&T and was getting 4G LTE speeds.

Vwguy911, certain cdma smartphones come with a sim card port, and can be unlocked and taken to gsm carriers. And verizon is not the only cdma based provider. Sprint, boost mobile, cricket, and others still on cdma. How do you not know all this?

Did you sign up with a prepaid or post paid T-Mobile account?

It sounds like it would be worth the extra $10 to go back to at&t and get 4G speeds if all you're getting is EDGE.

No Q10 should have to suffer from EDGE speeds, and neither should your wife.
