What is the use of the middle button between the two volume keys? Is it for the sole purpose of voice control that nobody uses is there any way to change what it does.
I thought it was supposed to be a mute button.

PS anyone know how to go between ring-vibrate-silent using the volume keys without having to pull down the top and doing it manually

The middle button is also for playing/pausing music.

To switch from sound to vibe just keep pressing the vol down button and to reactivate sound press the up vol

It does work as a mute button when you're on a phone call. Just press and release (don't press and hold) when you're on a call and it will mute the mic.

To change the notifications volume using the volume keys, go to Settings, then Main Volume, and then turn OFF Always Adjust Media Volume. Note that you will have to press the up/down volume key until you get to the desired ringer volume. The phone will vibrate when you go all the way down to silent.

The middle button is used also for muting during call, pause and play music (you have to activate it).

Also, in Main Volume settings if you turn off "Always Adjust Media Volume" you will be able to change the notifications volume instead of media when you are not playing media.

Here' a fun trick to try: HOLD that middle button down (not while playing music): It will start the voice recognition module going and you can get your phone to do some things for you (it'll show you the list when you first try it)
