INTERNATIONAL BLACKBERRY USERS BE CAREFULL WITH BB10!!!!

T-MOBILE UNLIMITED INTERNATIONAL EMAIL DATA FEATURE NOT WORKING ON BB10

I was so happy about my new Q10 until my first travel to Europe. I have been using blackberries for years and I travel constantly out of the country. The unlimited international email data feature is one of the main reasons why I am a blackberry user. I intensively use my emails during my travels and my only cost with T-mobile is $19.99 per month.

During my last trip to Europe, with 10 minutes of the time I turned on the phone and ONLY downloaded emails, I was charged $200, by half day it was already over $500 ; I called T-Molbile and they told me it was a mistake and they would revert that charge. The day after my data usage was over $1,100, I called T-mobile again and after an hour of call, I was told that the Unlimited international email data is not valid for 10 generation bb, only for older ones. I am still fighting to have those $1,100 refunded and as soon as I return to US I will return my Q10, go back to my old bold to use when I travel and probably buy an I-phone to be able to use the applications and the other feauters I liked of the Q10.

It is unaccetale that they do not advertise this, but I understand why they don't, otherwise a lot of people won't upgrade to this newer device! It is also a shame that international travelers have only the option of older phones if they do not want to spend thousands and thousands of data charges!!! I double checked the T-Mobile website and it does not say it in any place!!!

Now I have to stay for 10 days with no emails or spend thousands of dollars to get emails before I go back to the US.....I will turn off the data and look desperate for wireless all the time, like the iphone users do when they travel. Then why have a blackberry??

anybody with the same experience? Do you know if other carries offer the same feature?

That sounds like your service provider talking complete rubbish. If you buy a plan that includes international roaming it doesn't matter what phone you are using! If they don't sort you out I think you were missold the plan!

Personally I always turn off the radio and use wifi even if it means paying to connect to wifi...

It is a feature of BIS on the older BBOS phones. The carrier can differentiate email data over the BIS network from regular internet usage. The new BB10 phones do not have that feature. The carrier should have told you this on the first call to them.

It sounds like having a phone like a 9900 for out of country travels may be the solution. Just have the plan on the SIM and move the SIM to the 9900 before leaving the country. The Q10 will work on wifi without a SIM while you are there.

I'm having this experience with two z10's. Our first two z10 users are overseas now and racking up huge charges even though we have the international piece on for both. TMobile is telling us it's the difference between activesync data and bes server date, but both devices were setup on a bes 10 server. Did I miss something when I set them up?

I can not move the sim to a 9900 because it is a different size - I was lucky I still had an old sim and I have that re-activated but it took 24 hours. Also, the bold can make call over wifi, when you are out of the country, like you were in US - another feature not available on the Q10.

BB10 is definitely not a phone for international travelers!

T-Mobile told me that the international features does not apply to the BB10, basically you ar ein the same situation of an Iphone users.... huge data charges or only wifi data!

It will work for the BB10, if you have BES10 lol

Just get a prepaid sim, $50 a month unlimited in most countries. Check your voicemail as you please, everything else on the phone stays the same.

...but if you visit 15 plus contries in one year, it is not worth it; i just loved my bold and my flat rate of $19.99/month, I thought I could do the same with BB10!

The smaller SIM will fit in a 9900. You just need to position it in the 9900 properly. I did this when I bought a Z10 and gave the Z10 to my son and went back to the 9900 while I waited for the Q10 to be released.

There's your problem right there. The Z and Q have been advertised as not needing a BIS plan for data, therefore any specific BIS plans your carrier offered would not be of use. Mentioned many times already that a regular data plan can be used on the Z and Q, so standard roaming for data would be incurred.

I just switched from a BB9300 to a Q10 on T-Mobile. On a trip to Mexico I received a SMS notifying me that I had incurred US$500 in data roaming charges. I called T-Mobile and was told not to worry that I had "BlackBerry Unlimited International E-mail" and that any charges will be reversed. The next day my line was suspended. I called again and my line was reinstated. But without email or BBM! Today I called again and this time a tech support specialist explained that this feature was not supported on the Q10. The folks at customer care do not seem to know that. And I was told that I had racked up $10,000 of data charges! These charges will be reversed and I will go back to my old BB9300. Also note that the Q10 does not have Wifi calling (UMA) a feature I use a lot when travelling overseas.
Bad move on the part of T-Mobile and BB. T-Mobile should have kept feature that give it a competitive edge.
