I don't know why people think speed dial doesn't exist.
You can assign a contact to any letter. In Phone go over to contacts (middle icon)
Swipe down from the top- and select the gear in top right- for phone settings.
Scroll down to 'Keypress Speed Dialing'
select what letter you want to use and boom. you're set

Yes, it does exist, but you have to be in the phone application to make it work.

So it isn't very speedy. Haha.

Agreed, home screen hold to dial is what everyone is wanting.

Maybe it should be called, auto-dial, vs. speed dial. :-)
