Side loading on a Q10
Just wondering if anyone has tried side loading android apps on a Q10? What happens to the dimensions of the app? I'm hoping it's not squashed. Cheers!

The Q10 should be able to side load apps.
Not as good as the Z10, though... - 03-24-2013, 07:42 PM

Apps are sideload-able. Not sure what the "Not as well as the Z10" comment was...
As for how they look - it depends on how the developer wrote the app. Some resize properly, others do not. When they do not, they're hideous.

Actually this is a very good question. I love my Z10 but was determined to get the Q10. I have sideloaded some apps like Zite, imdb and Tapatalk which I can not be without, so are there any way to tell which apps will look good on Q10 and which ones won't?

Well, if you Google some of the QWERTY Android devices, such as the Samsung Galaxy Pro B7510, LG Optimus Pro C660, Acer beTouch E210, or the Motorola FIRE XT311, you'll notice that there are quite a variety of similar aspect ratios for Android phones.
That's part of the headache for 'droid developers, I suppose.

Actually, don't mean to backpedal, but it actually appears the closest is 4:3 (not 5:4 as I originally thought), which still means that there's either stretching or letterboxing, I suppose...

Actually, some letterboxing might be good (i.e. a 4:3 android format) because that space can be used for the "Android controls" and/or the word predictions from the keyboard.

Some screenshots of apps that display OK here:

I said that, because most android-developers don't develop for screens like 3". They mainly
cater towards 4" and 5'" behemoth screens, not 3", which are used commonly on low-end devices.
Example, the HTC Chacha, an android style QWERTY device, that in order to play or use portrait apps, had to be held in
landscape position. - 03-31-2013, 10:34 AM #18
In this thread you can see a russian Q10-video with an apparently flawlessly working Android Navigation/Google Maps App at 00:33. Looking very good to me!

but seriously Android apps will probably work fine as Android developers have been working with multiple devices and screen sizes for a while now.
