I backed up my Device Settings, Media and Application Data separately (3 Backup files)

Just wondering when I restore them separately, does it completely wipe the phone?
e.g if i restore device settings, then restore media. Will the media restoration process erase my device settings?

Edit: I did them separately because the app and media backup were too big and kept freezing up
