So there's 1:1, 4:3 and 16:9.

In terms of quality or how it's viewed on another phone or computer what are the differences and advantages in using these?

All I can see is they just seem to be less "zoomed" in and crop out some picture space.

There is no difference in picture quality but only in captured area depending on the dots per square inch capability of the camera.

Which means 4:3 is the full 8mpx, while the others are 6mpx.
