I agree I asked on the Berryleaks youtube show yesterday about a radio but I guess it's part of the OS and can't be played with. But I was sorta asking for the actual piece of hardware in the phone and curious if it could be changed.

The actual radio is not software. A hardware transciever is what it has. Software changes have effect on the hardware. The firmware gets updated and this is the low level software that actually dictates how the transciever functions and works with the OS.

The way it works is the transciever is on a chip. The chip has many many features. The OS or vendor or carrier may not support all the features. So they can be disabled/enabled by firmware. This firmware dictates frequency bands etc. Then an antennae tuned to the bands for a given firmware version is added.

So that is why it seems as though it is all done by software.

Yes the chip can be replaced. You woukd need schematics and test equiptment to identify the chip. Obviously if the chip tests within tolerence changing it would serve no purpose

I've been in the Midwest for 10 days -- my Q10 T-mobile signal can't hold LTE but my no name Chinese Android device had no issues maintaining LTE.
