[CrackBerry Question]

The phone is requesting I enter the password and states that after 10 wrong entries it will erase all the data. I don't think I ever entered a password into the device. After several attempts to enter a password it has stopped advancing the wrong password count at 5. Any ideas?

you need the password. did you have protect on as well?

If it's requesting for you to enter the password then you have to enter the correct password if you're not the one who put device password try asking someone who uses your phone other than you and don't continue entering password if you're not sure about it 'cause if you reach 10 attempts your phone will be wiped and all the files you have in your phone will be deleted.

Try your BlackBerry I'd password.
Also try the last 4 digits in your phone number
Or 0000, 1111, 2222 etc

Did you sideload any app like snap from your computer? As far as I know, it requests a password and puts your phone in password protection. Other than that, I can't think of any reason why your phone requests a password.
