Can someone with a Q10 tell me how the HDMI output looks like on your TV? Since the Q10 has a 1:1 ratio, is that how it looks like on the TV, or does it adjust to take up the whole (wide) screen? If it doesn't adjust, does it put black bars on either side of the video?

A picture or YouTube video showing the output would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Yes, this would be interesting to see. If someone could post an image, too, that would be nice

    Hmmm....

I'm not really sure that I like this! Why is there two different outputs - standard vs. dlna/play on??

Can someone explain why there is a different in outputs?

Also, if I take a video on my Q10 and copy the video to my laptop, will it be full screen, or will it have the black bars on the side?

My question is can we use HDMI cable to project from Z10 to a projector instead of a TV screen? Mostly used for presentations , it would be awesome

As far as I understand, you should be able to use the phone with a projector. I haven't tested this theory because I do not have a projector with HDMI to try it out with. Logic dictates that it should work though.

Agreed, the projector doesn't care what it's input is. Should be no problem, if the projector/interface has the option for HDMI.

Also you can exploit the projector aspect ratio to your liking.

I'm disappointed with the hdmi on the q10, i used that on my z10 all the time as i just download movies and then simply plug into my tv to watch, the dlna feature i find always has to buffer or something, maybe my router sucks?

i use a sideloaded android version of plex - latest. When I put this through the hdmi, having the picture float in the middle disappointed me a little. It is a shame I agree, hope it gets updated with more options - not sure if I can find a way to compensate with the settings on my TV sadly.

I connected my Q10 via HDMI to my TV and when I play a movie using Videos player (built in) it plays in a square box on tv (1:1 ratio) even though in Settings / Display / HDMI it is set to 1920x1080p 16:9 ratio. What am I doing wrong???

If u play the movie from the videos app, you can long press the movie, click "play on" and there u should have the option hdmi. The video will then play in full screen, not squared.

Yup. Figured that out after posting it. Thanks though.

I rented Rise of the Guardians. All went OK its just it appears the movies rented from BlackBerry World are not in HD. It looked like a highly compressed "slightly better than DVD" quality on big 50" 1080p TV. Sound was good. I was hoping I could use my Q10 as a streaming player but until they up the resolution to decent 1080p it will not be the case.

Yes. For both Q10 and Z10 you may project it out by using a projector that comes along with HDMI output.

However the ratio of the projection is up to your projector setting.

Certain apps may experience no voice output.

So if you're watching a video online (for example on CTV.ca or ABC.com) and go full screen, will it still output to the square?

Yes. Because HDMI direct project out the screen image in HD quality. So even if it's a webpage that you're browsing, you may still enjoy the full features.

It's a super tough battle between the Q10 and Z10 for me ATM. I have no idea which one to choose. This is something important though. So, as of 10.2, when connecting the Q10 to a HDTV do we have the optin of choosing full screen for everything or are something squared? Also, if only some things can be put in full screen, which ones are they?

P.S.: It's complete BS and dumb if BB doesn't give us the option to have everything in full screen.

May someone please answer? I'm especially interested in knowing if full screen works on Crackle, Android version of Netflix/Amazon Video (since I might become a member), browser, video from browser, YouTube and docs. Please, and thank you.

On a Q10, when watching a video click on the overflow menu, select "Play On", and then choose "HDMI". That's how you toggle between fullscreen.

Outside of the video app..browser streaming for example (from my experiences)....the hdmi to TV mirrored my Q10 screen. No full screen though.

There's no workaround? I was really thinking of getting a Q10 and using it as my media player for my home. Crackle, movies/shows from the browser, YouTube, playing games, surfing the web, docs. I hope there is a way even if its not officially from BB

Sounds like the PlayOn feature makes it go full screen. But not sure if it's a magnified version of the small rectangle within the square. If streaming videos is your priority, I think maybe a Z would be a safer bet.
