I think we can all agree the problem with the Q10 is the lack of screen real estate. Not so much the screen SIZE, more how much can actually fit on screen.

The square screen got me thinking of how great a 'Passport Mode' would be. Looking at how good screenshots from a Passport look on a Q10 screen, I can't help but feel having an option of shrinking the buttons/action bar/whatever down to be able to emulate 1440x1440 on the Q10's 720x720.

A pipe dream, I know, but for those of us who want to squeeze as much on screen, I really do think it could look amazing giving such an option. And this is just about the Q10 - it could look even better on the Classic.

    Oh well. Just a thought.

You can't just 'emulate' 1440x1440 on a 720x720 display. There are literally half the physical pixels in there. Sure.. you can make things half the size in x-y directions, but since the resolution is lower,.. you would end up with mostly illegible characters (they will look like glyphs). Passport Mode = Passport.

But that's the thing - if you look at screengrabs from the Passport on the Q10 screen, everything is eligible. That's why I would quite like to have that screen real estate on the Q10.

Are you maybe running 10.2.1? and what you perceive as the "Passport Mode" is in fact just 10.3?

Nope, I'm running 10.3.1. My apologies, I'm probably just explaining myself badly. It's really as simple as looking at screengrabs from the Passport and looking at them fullscreen on the Q10. As they come across clearly, I thought it would be good to be able to scale things so there is more available on screen. Screenshots from the Passport viewed on the Q10 really do just look like there is more on the screen and come across incredibly clearly considering the resolution on the Passport is double that of the Q10.

Could you take a picture (not screenshot) of how this looks on your Q10?

As you can see here, it looks really clear (apologies, the photo quality isn't great). Scaling accordingly would genuinely look fine, I think.

I understand what the OP is getting at. He would like to have a mode where the contents seen on the Passport would be displayed on the Q10, even if that meant everything went smaller. The problematic issue would be that some interface features (buttons, icons, cut & paste handles, etc.) would become too small to touch easily.

You are missing his point. Evem on 10.3.1 the Q10 still only displays 5-6 mails inside the Hub, on contrary to a screenshot taken from a Passport and displayed full screen on the Q, which surprisingly clear shows the increased amount of displayed information seems to work on the Q.

I agree with the OP. Those fullscreen screenshots are looking surprislingly good on the small Q10 Display. You should definitly contact Blackberry and ask them to think about it!

Yeah,.. the actual photos of the Q10 with the Passport screenshot displayed changed my mind. Pretty obvious that most of the UI would display properly. Surprised there isn't a way to scale up and down every element (not just text).

It would be nice to have this "passport mode", however it probably won't be practical for anything other than reading.

Navigating websites, text editing, even something simple as tapping an app icon could prove to be a difficult, frustrating, error-prone task.

Unless... if blackberry were to come up with an easier and more accurate way to do all those things without the use of the touch screen... almost like a mouse on a pc... hmmm...

I think I understand your point. However can you show two screen shots. One is the actual hub on Q10 and the other is Passport screen shot of the hub on Q10 to see how they are different? Also, would decreasing font size help?

This is a very interesting idea. Something I would like to have an option for. Maybe if others chipped in here who like the idea, maybe BlackBerry would cotton on and perhaps introduce a 'screen resolution' option to Display settings in a future update. Something similar to Windows desktop resolution settings is what I have in mind, allowing more interface content within the display, all be it smaller (at the cost of clarity perhaps but if the user can decide what they can live with then why not? - options are always good).

Maybe even a 'Q10 mode' on the passport for the visually impaired!

I think the OP is on to a winner here. The question is however, how hard would it be to build this into the OS framework, if possible at all?

It might be something BlackBerry would consider in order to open up appeal to a wider user base.
