I have tried various Otter Box cases on my BlackBerry devices over the years and have returned every one of them. I find the cases to be too bulky and cumbersome for my liking. Other people swear by them, I swear at them.

If you use the holster enough, the sides of the outer silicon case will get worn out with the visible signs of abrasion.

It is better than the commuter case because it does not get in the way of typing. It also will not stretch as much.

All in all, if you are not going to use the Defender case with the holster, it should be fine. I think it looks good.

It leaves little dents on the frame at the parts that snap the case in place - other than that I liked this over the commuter for sure.

Defender case is good and relatively cheap on ebay, go for it.

Since you have on one the way it is probably a bit late, but incipio makes a fantastic series of dual layer cases for the Z/Q series phones. Not quite the degree of protection of otterbox but significantly less weight and size, and the keyboard doesn't have a membrane over it.

Incipio does not do one for the Z30.

I have one for mine and I haven't used it in years mainly due to the bulkyness of the case and how easy the belt holster clip breaks if you Sit down in the car with forgetting you have it on your waist.

I have the commuter case and really like it. I believe it's less bulky compared to the defender. It was only like $8 bucks from eBay.
