The 9900 and the Q10 seem to be on either side of the bullseye. Here's my suggestion for BB:

    My Q30 fan made concept-q30.jpg

Put back the hard buttons, put back the trackpad, reduce the space under the keyboard, and extend the screen. Simple....

What happens when you do an up or side swipe and hit the trackpad on the way by? It could be problematic, moving selections on screen and other unintended consequences.

    Just an observation:
The spacing between the frets seems uneven from the mid to the outside? Is this an optical illusion or to the keys gradually get taller as they go to the edge?

Is the screen/phone larger than the Q10?

Cores....how many cores..it needs at least 16 to be considered relevant in 2014, even if 14 are not used

    Buttons?? really?

Simple...but trackpad and hardware buttons will never happen. We have simply passed that road.

As one of those who prefers the trackpad and hard buttons, I like it! At least as long as they can get around any of the problems mentioned regarding swiping from the bottom bezel.

You're right - maybe another fret above the trackpad/button row?

Yes I enlarged the display size to match the Q10.

As for cores etc...I'm actually pretty happy with q10 power etc. My biggest issues are the loss of trackpad and hardware buttons...

I had the 9930 for a few years and now Ive have the Q10 since before Christmas and don't miss the track pad and buttons.

You and now use the shift key and run your finger over what you want highlighted provided you load a current leak

Let the trackpad die already. It isn't needed. It ain't coming back no matter how bad you want it.

Amen. Learning to use a touchscreen is way easier than the trackpad faithful make it seem. Having come from an iphone and now the Q I think using a trackpad to interact with the screen is as "weird" (disconnected in a way I guess...) to the point where it would take me as long to learn how to go back as did to make the transition to full touch in the first place.

Visually, minus the buttons it looks good imo. But a huge problem you'd run into is that the Q30 would need a redesigned OS for it due to the bottom bar / doubling of menu button, back button etc.

After having taken apart my Q10, I'd say pretty confidently that you couldn't put the keyboard that far down. That space at the bottom is used for the microphone and loudspeaker components, and I believe they purposefully didn't stack the keyboard on top of those 2 components for a reason, either due to electronic signals, ease of repairs etc.

I think that's a good job you've done with creating the image, however, personally I don't want the buttons back. Especially not the track pad.. still very creative though so hats off to you my friend

Gotta love how some people still cling to the idea that the send/back/trackpad/menu/end keys will ever be on another BlackBerry.

    Those days are over.

I'd also never count on ever seeing curved frets again, especially after BlackBerry told us the benefits of having straight across keys.

This is the OP's dream but everything beneath the screen will never see the light of day on a future BlackBerry 10 device.

I love the 9900.. but I can't go back to buttons and a trackpad. Its in the past.. I moved on. And I love the straight keyboard on the Q10.

The trackpad days are over people, move forward. I see where you're going with it but for me it's too similar to the 9900. I want to see a Q10 type device with a taller edge to edge display (4" maybe?") and maybe a thinner profile. I think the increased display size is key for a Q10 successor.

I just LOVE what you've done.
There are a number of things like using the calendar and copy/paste that are just MUCH easier with the trackpad and buttons. One handed too.

Still on my 9900 and can't see the day that will change any time soon. If it dies I'll probably replace it. As mentioned on previous articles here it is the ULTIMATE messaging machine:

The best BlackBerry you can buy | CrackBerry.com

This design is my ultimate BB and I think it would sell squillions of units catching both sides of the BB/touchscreen divide and pick up new customers from other OS's.

    Congrats on your design.

Interesting response to the trackpad...seems to be a love/hate thing. I'm not saying it's either/or, but BOTH. If you love the touchscreen you can still do your thing, but if you love the trackpad then you're set.

What would make this even better is if the SETTINGS had switch which optimizes the GUI for either touch or trackpad. You could pack a lot more onscreen if using the trackpad, scroll up/down menus, etc.

No point in dreaming of trac pads they are done. Bb10 will keep growing and things should improve.

That phone in the picture would be a bugger to put a case on and use the space bar and other lower keys I think.

I was a little glad when the trackpad left. My first 9900 had an issue where in sunlight it would randomly scroll up, making texting/typing impossible during the summer at the pool or outside. Even on cloudy days it would scroll! AT&T almost didn't even replace it...

It's less things that can go wrong.

The only times I miss it are with text selection and correcting mistakes, but that can be improved with software updates. I've actually gotten pretty good with the little circle!

However, I'm all for a bigger screen, and in that department, this concept delivers.
