I don't like how BlackBerry and Michael Clewley decried that making the calender on the Q10 white on the 10.1MR was "better"... I don't like how certain core apps are also white - BBM in 10.2 for example...
Dark themes also help prolong battery life on devices with AMOLED screens.

I call for an option in Display Settings to toggle a full system-wide Dark Theme on/off. How hard would that be?

I call for us, the Q10 user to have something alien to BlackBerry... CHOICE!!

The dark theme makes the q10 very special. also reduces battery consumption because of the oled screen. Please keep it or have give us a black/white switch option. 10.2 MUST have this once official.

Everyone knows that "the squeaky wheel gets the oil"... just give them a little time to hear from the us, use to be happy "silent" campers. Nothing like this seems to be permanent. OTA updates seem so far behind anyway. It might be a fix before the official OTA gets around and released. But I will continue to squeak too!

I assume by not offering the choice they are trying to go the apple route in order to avoid the insane options that become confusing on android.

In my opinion there is a happy medium that BlackBerry needs to find out in order to be successful in luring new users.

Agree completely with this thread! My daughter has the Q10 and loves the dark theme. She does not want the MR1 if that means light theme. As a Z10 owner I understand this would make no difference to my battery life but I, too, would like the option of a dark theme -- I just think it looks nicer. I hope BlackBerry gives Q10 owners at least the option of dark vs light with default being dark. The intention behind dark theme, among other things, was as OP wrote, better battery life on an AMOLED screen.

I agree completely, Michael Clewless doesn't understand what it means to listen to the core audience. I had a run in with him in Orlando about the copy paste features and received a very ignorant response.

Meh, it's not about which is better but about user preference and not having it set in stone to say... The dark theme had it's appeal (some liked it some didn't) and it had it's benefits (extending battery life). Best bet would be to include both if that's the case of releasing the standard "white theme"...

I've already sideloaded the black calendar, because I agree, black looks better.. but the title of this thread is a little extreme. When I opened it, I was expecting some story on how he told you to download something or try some method of troubleshooting and it totally destroyed your Q10 and turned it into a brick.


I think what happened was what we see here on the forums...where people CRY and COMPLAIN about the things they DON'T LIKE, and fewer people are as vocal about the things that they DO like (i.e. Lots of people complained of reboots here, while many who didn't have reboots probably never created a thread to tell us.. so it looked like TONS of people were having reboots).

In this case, TONS of people complained about how dim the Q10 screen was and how the black screen was hard to see, and how they should be able to have an easier-to-read white theme, because they were responsible enough to bring a charger to keep their phone alive and BlackBerry shouldn't be making it hard for their older, qwerty loving fans to read and blah blah blah.

So BlackBerry listened to those people.

The lesson is: Speak up if you DO like something, because BlackBerry is clearly listening.
