So I just got a Blackberry Q10 to replace my busted Lumia 640. I used to be a hardcore Palm fan but jumped to Windows Phone when it died -- at that time, Blackberry was the enemy and I couldn't stand your keyboards. Well, now Blackberry is the last option for a good hardware keyboard so here I am, rocking a Q10. I pretty much just want the phone for GPS, camera, keyboard, and calls, so I'm totally fine with the app gap and all that. But I do have some questions.

1: Blackberry link won't detect my phone at all. My computer doesn't show a device plugged in, nothing. I have it plugged in through the microusb port -- there's another port on the Q10 but I don't know what it's for. How do I connect to link? I've verified my email and everything.

2: Can't update past Blackberry 10.1? I read that 10.3 is out and it includes the amazon app store, but my phone says everything is up to date. Not sure why.

It's currently locked to AT&T but I ordered an unlock code and I'm waiting for it to process. Thanks for any help you can give!

The other port is hdmi for viewing on a tv screen. Cool feature.

You want to be on at least 10.2.1. The latest version is 10.3.3, but 10.3.2 is probably the latest that you can get at this time.

Just plug your phone into your computer and Link should load. It may take a few minutes. Otherwise go to the BlackBerry website and download blend/link. You can update the system software through Link.

Failing that if you are on wifi, go to Settings and check for system updates and update the software. It may take a while, but it will be worth it. You may have already tried this though as you have indicated that your phone is telling you that you are on the latest software.

I actually preferred 10.1 on my Q10. 10.2 seemed to be made for the Passport with big blue buttons taking up precious real estate on our smaller screens.

I also hate BlackBerry assistant and 10.2 shoved it your face.

    Welcome!

Also check your screen on the Q10 when you plug it in to the computer, mine prompts to install drivers and blend / link.

I'm at 10.3.2, I personally like how it looks.

Welcome! When I recently connected my Q10 to my laptop I found that my laptop needed to install some drivers the first time I connected my phone. That took a few minutes. One that completed I closed Link and re attached my phone and it was recognized. That might help you as well.

Further to the above, sometimes when I open link it says that the device is not connected and all I need to do is hit the reconnect button again and then all is well.

Link can be fickle, but I find it useful.

Funny, I've tried all the above, my computer still doesn't even seem to recognize that the phone is plugged in at all.
Edit: sorry for not providing more detail, I was on my phone. So I've tried installing and reinstalling Blackberry Link. Link says I have no devices associated with my BBID and it can't recognize the phone when I plug it in. I do have a device associated with the BBID, as when I check on the phone it lists my BBID properly. Is this because I don't have a valid sim inserted, perhaps? I'm waiting on my unlock code so I can use it on T-Mobile.

I've tried reinstalling Link. I've tried waiting several minutes to see if it recognizes the phone. No updates show as available on the phone itself when connected over Wi-Fi. Windows doesn't recognize the device at all.

    What am I doing wrong?

Ok, so I managed to get an autoloader working (when I powered the blackberry off everything started running and Windows even recognized it) and now that I've updated to 10.3 link detects the blackberry and everything looks good! Thanks all for the help.
