I purchased a new BB q10 sqn100 under the premise that it was unlocked, I asked and it does not appear to be unlocked so I was hoping to unlock it. I have no clue who the original service provider would be, it has no badging on the phone beyond normal BB symbols.
I bought a straight talk byop package and put the at&t/gsm sim card in and transferred service to it. (it obviously isn't working yet)
I heard that some carriers for the q10 make it impossible to unlock, and am not sure if this is in fact true.

information on what the phone says atm is as follows.
in the corner near the signal symbol it says emergency calls only. (with a phone symbol with a red exclamation)

    SIM page
    Phone network lock:
your current SIM card requires one or more Mobile Equipment Personalization codes before the Mobile Network will be available.

    Network Subset:
    Unlocked
    Service Provider:
    Unlocked

upon rebooting I get a message that reads
"device is Network Locked" in the top corner
    and a BBry message saying
"the device is Network Locked. Contact your service provider."

I would like to know if it is possible to unlock this phone/ how to go about that and any information on how to possibly find the service provider assuming I need to know in order to get an unlock code.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am sorta at a loss due to my web searches not coming up with much information on similar circumstances.

I think it's locked as if someone reported it stolen.

It's an IMEI lock. It's quite impossible to unlock it, if you not know the carrier.

There's plenty of Web pages providing info about your IMEI.

You should check if the IMEI is blacklisted online..

it is a sqn100-1 so that narrows it down a little to t-mobile, at&t, bell, rogers, and fido. I believe.

Well. It looks that is not blacklisted in most off carriers, now that you narrowed the search, one thing I did one time, was call every carrier and ask about the IMEI, you can call and ask if the is not blacklisted, they can givve you that information..
