I bought a BlackBerry Q10 thinking its unlocked. It seems like it's locked. In order for me to unlock it I need to know which carrier it's locked. It's there a way to find this out? Please help.

If it was sold as unlocked, return it to the store. Get the unit swapped for a properly unlocked one. Unlocking a BB10 device is still on the expensive side and you shouldn't have to pay for it unless you really have to.

IF you can't return it... Get a few SIM cards from different carriers, a beverage and be glad the booting times on BB10 devices is under the 90 seconds mark. ><

I may not have the exact answer, but will offer some possible ways that may help you find out (and make a post to subscribe, because I too want to know the answer to this question!)

Does the phone have any carrier branding? What about the box it came in?

Do you know which model of the Q10 you have? If you don't have the side of the box to look at, you can type myver in a text field, and hit space.

If you see that it's a SQN100-3 and you're in Canada (which I think you are,) your phone is most likely from Rogers/Koodo. It could be from Europe too, but that is not very likely.

If it says SQN100-1, it could be from any of the following carriers, and more: Bell, Telus, AT&T, Rogers, etc.

If it says SQN100-5, it could be from WIND, T-Mobile USA, or Mobilicity or Videotron (if the last two are selling Q10s.)

If it says SQN100-2, it should not be locked, as it would be from Verizon.

Good luck, and I hope some better answers come by!

Do you have a SQN100-5, then?

Now that I think about this, this issue may have come up before. I'll look through my post history and get back to you.

Edit: found the thread I was talking about here. It was a somewhat similar situation, but not quite the same. You want to look for something called the PRD number, and that might clue you in.

So if Telus, Rogers and Bell SIMs don't work, this could be an AT&T phone. Is there no branding on the phone at all? AT&T phones usually have carrier branding.

I'm in Ontario. I found out going and checking the sim card option that the phone is indeed unlocked but for some reason it's not recognizing my sim card. If I find out the carrier I can get it fixed hopefully. I think the sim card pin might be broken.

If you reboot the phone carrier will pop before it fades black. Same goes if it's starting.

Do you have the box for this phone? If so, look on the side for a PRD#

If not, then we'll have to guess. If Fido didn't work, then it is not a Rogers/Fido phone. So the choices for upper North America then are:

    Telus/Koodo
    Bell/Virgin Mobile
Wind and any other smaller carriers that may have sold the Classic
    T-Mobile US

I have a BB Q10. It is a SQN100-3. I can tell you right now that it is not Bell, Rogers, Fido or Telus. I have checked with them all. I have no idea who the original carrier is. I have the PRD for it even. I am with Fido and need it unlocked but have had no luck finding the original carrier. The PRD is: 53409-002. If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

I have tried this and it doesn't work. Just gives me the Blackberry name and then the circle that says it is booting.

No Carrier branding on phones in Canada much anymore that I have seen. I have a SQN100-3 and have no clue who the carrier is. It is definitely not Rogers, Fido, Telus or Bell.

I bought a telus unlocked phone, but broke one of the Sim pins. It booted, worked on WiFi, but no Sim could be read. I sure hope that isn't your issue.
