Hey gang�.Looking into a Q10 or Z30 but have a GPS question for all who have the device. Will someone go to Yelp and type in your favorite restaurant and see if the GPS has the ability to work within Yelp (google maps I think) and guide you to the restaurant with Step by Step instructions. I would appreciate your help. Thanks

You can type your favorite restaurant in blackberry maps and it will guide you there turn by turn.

You can even just start typing the name and the search app automatically opens. From there you can open maps and it will search that way too, but simply opening maps is probably simpler.

Thanks but I use the Yelp app for work. I am involved in Food Service sales and need to pull menu's before visiting the account. Yelp does all this for you then shows you on Google Maps where the restaurant is located which you have the ability to click on the maps which takes you to Google maps and it guides you to the restaurant. I was hoping the BlackBerry would work with this app in the same method without exiting the app and pasting the address into BlackBerry Maps. Not a game changer just curious if the Q10 or Z30 work with Yelp.

It's a good possibility that yelp won't work if it relies on Google maps. There is a fix for Google maps, but still no guarantee that yelp will work. Some android apps work on blackberry, others don't. If you get the Q10, I would get it not expecting yelp to work, but give it a shot. Then if it doesn't work you're not too disappointed. You can also search blackberry world for restaurant apps.

It all seems to work great via the BB10 Browser.


I don't have the actual Yelp app loaded.
After I put the Yelp Android app on my wife's Z10 probably later this week, I'll try to remember to test it out within the actual app as well.

I'm on the most recent leaked version of the OS, and I just sideloaded yelp. The app works fine, but I haven't sideloaded Google maps yet. Working on that now.

Ok so after installing Google maps and restarting twice, I am now able to type in a restaurant on yelp and then open directions in Google maps. So it does work.

It works like charm
but don't go with Q10 unless your a keyboard lover... in order to get the complete use of yelp you need a full touch screen phone like Z10 or Z30

Sideloading means installing an android app that has been converted to blackberry format. In my case, being on a leaked os, I'm able to install the apps without having to convert them first. In other words, I can download apk's and install them directly to the phone. I downloaded yelp from the amazon app store directly on my phone. I had to download Google maps on my computer using an apk downloader and then copy it to my memory card. But they both work fine. Just had to restart a couple times.

BlackBerry has a native app similar to yelp called foursquare, the phone comes with it installed and it's integrated with blackberry maps.

Thanks for the post. I had no idea it was so similar to Yelp. I thought it was just an app to show your friends where you are.

No problem. I read another post about foursquare and it sounded similar to yelp, so I decided to download it and check it out. After signing up for an account, I got rid of yelp and Google maps.
