Since us mere mortals can't drop a few grand on the real deal, I ordered a kit on ebay and here's the final result. Cost was about $40. Phone was used on Craigslist for $200.

The kit included a keyboard which may not have been OEM, and it had some Asian looking symbols on a few keys. I reused the OEM one. It also included the back plastic part of the body and a top piece. I only used the frame.



The app is CreamPlayer, an Internet radio app I wrote myself. I am probably going to post it to BBW soon.

This seller has a version for the white model too that has a white keyboard with gold frets. It's pretty nice, a couple bucks more but worth it.

I did try to find one with gold frets and black keys, but couldn't find one except as part of a kit that was double the price sadly. :/

There is an all gold colour keyboard out there too but I thought it looked really tacky.

What tools did you need?? I want to get the white/gold combo

I needed a T4 and T5 bit. I did NOT seperate the keyboard and display when swapping them. You will need a tiny phillips screwdriver like the kind you would adjust eyeglasses with to install the gold and white keyboard.

I also used a soft plastic pry tool for removing the bottom piece with the Verizon branding as well as the connectors.

Of course and that's why you ask, . T4 and T5 are torx drivers. The 4 and 5 are the sizes op used. You can find cheap sets on eBay, Amazon, and your local hardware/tools store.

The bottom portion of the bezel is definitely plastic, the rest of it is metal. The buttons and speaker grille are gold as well.

And when I say gold, who knows how much actual gold is in the kit. It's $40 so it's cheap costume jewelry bilng.

Is it possible to remove the gold frets on the keyboard and fit a black keyboard in its place?

Im planning to order this as well but to use on a black Q10 like yours.

No. The frets are a part of the keyboard and trying to separate them would just break the keyboard.

You can search for a black keyboard with gold frets if that's what you want and if you find one, please let me know
