Hi I am shortly to spend some weeks in NYC and nearby (major cities) on holiday from Australia. My phone is a 100-3. Could you let me know if any of the carriers have better compatibility for that model. Data quality is probably more important to me as I will use it to stay in touch with my work for emails etc. Not particularly price conscious. Thanks in advance.

Your two options as far as networks go are AT&T and T-Mobile. Your 100-3 has the following relevant bands: UMTS 850, and UMTS 1900. AT&T uses both bands, and TMO uses 1900 in some places, known as refarmed cities. NYC happens to be one of these places, so you may just get by if you get a TMO SIM card. They have a USD 30 plan that gets you 100 minutes of talk time, unlimited texting (including to international destinations, like Australia) and 5GB of data. But there's a little bit of risk involved, because if you are in a non-refarmed part of NYC, then you won't get more than 2G.

AT&T (and subsequently its MVNOs,) on the other hand, has slightly more expensive plans, but there's little risk as far as coverage goes. Take a look at this link for the various branded and MVNO prepaid options that exist: http://www.prepaidphonenews.com/2011...-and-data.html

Thanks. AT&T it is. Sounds worth a few extra dollars for the certainty of coverage.
